| ICS Not Allowed?!?!?
I'm running a three-node PTP network with Win98SE ICS which currently works great over a dial-up connection. I ordered BellSouth Fast Internet Access last week, and expect to be connected within the next couple of weeks. When I asked the sales tech about home networks, she said that BellSouth "doesn't allow them" for it's DSL subscribers. I asked if she really meant that BellSouth "doesn't support them," but she wouldn't answer that question directly. I'm assuming that she's full of s**t and that BellSouth would not be able to tell whether TCP/IP packets were coming from the host or the clients on my ICS network.
Is this similar to what happened to you?

They cannot do anything if you DO ICS>.
It's coming out of one computer, so your not stealing another ip or anything and it does not say in your contract.. if you have one, so legally they cannot do anything

I just ordered fast access and am recieving a USB modem. Did I make a mistake? Can you use ICS to share this connection with a USB modem across a network? I have read so many negative things about this USB modem that now I am apprehensive.

With this modem affect my system performance?

you should have no problem with ics.I use it everyday with the same modem from fast access.First you will need a NIC in every machine to share connection. Then setup a network between all machines. Then you will need to install ICS on the machine with modem.(start>control panel>add/remove software>windows setup>intertnet options)It will prompt you to make a diskette,do as it says. Now go to your machines that will share connection and go to start>control panel>network. From that dialog box you will select tcp/ip> your network card, then click the button that says propeties. Now click on the tab that says ip address and select> obtain an IP address automaically.Next click the WINS configuration tab,and select at the bottom >use DHCP forWINS resolution.Next select the DNS configuration tab and select >disable DNS.Now click the advanced tab and select at the bottom >set this to be the default protocol.(be sure to have your windows cd handy)Now ok and apply your way back out and reboot as it will be required. When you boot back up you will run the diskette you created on the machines that will be sharing.Be sure to visit, »www.dslreports.com for tweaks, and, »www.grc.com for security advice.Good Luck

| | Anon | Just dont tell them they couldnt know unless you tell them!!!!The2 machines that are sharing the internet get their address from your host machine. | |
