Really Unlimited ?

Have you heard of anyone getting a letter or a call saying that they should not download that much ?

Im thinking on suscribing to this service ( Extreme - unlimited ) and i'm averaging 100~150GB per month. I was wondering it is really unlimited, or they will contact me if i go to far.

I've been with Sympatico for a few years at this pace and they have never contacted me, but now they want to limit everybody's downloads so i'm switching to Videotron probably.

Re: Really Unlimited ?

Yes, it is really unlimited. I went apeshit on the downloads with last month averaging more then 400GB. Never got a call or a letter or anything like that.

The only case I've heard is one of my friends who broke 900GB(newsgroups) last December and he received a call from VL asking him if the bandwidth was maybe due to a virus etc. He confirmed it was not a virus but rather his use and that's it. The call ended there. He got no warning, no nothing.

To conclude : yes it is really unlimited, but damn, you pay a lot for it. Only worth it if you bundle together the Videtron phone service and maybe Cable TV as well. Otherwise, i would advise you to consider Tecksavvy as they offer unlimited DSL for half the price or if you're on the Montreal island, Colba.net offers ADSL2+ 24Mbps down and 3.5Mbs up also unlimited for 35$ a month.

Hope this helps you make a sound decision.

Letter Received!

Just received a letter today as well about a 100GB cap Up and down COMBINED, so, If I upload about 10GB's, my DL cap is at 90.. And so forth.

EXTREME tier NO LONGER UNLIMITED !

Again, as mentioned in the update of my review, Videotron just put a 100GB for COMBINED upload and download on the extreme tier.

Everybody has 30 days to cancel the contract from the time they receive their letter with NO PENALTY.

For now, i recommend to change from EXTREME to regular High Speed tier and if you go over the 20GB/10GB cap, you can only have a max of 30$ penalty which is equivalent to the same price they charge for the EXTREME but without the lame ass 100GB cap.

Re: EXTREME tier NO LONGER UNLIMITED !

that's what Ill do on Oct 9th. I would have been charged close to 300$ of overcharge last month if that had been effective.

Throttling is the major problem here.

I just switch from bell to videotron, my uncle works for videotron and told me that videotron will not implement the infamous bell traffic management program on their network. to know if the program is active you just need to download a litlle program called WISP.

They better not. Right now i couldn't care less. In February my contract for the phone line expires and i will call them and cancel everything i have with Videotron. They treated their clients like dumb idiots and i'm taking my business somewhere else.
