Fair Warning

Insist that Aliant send over a Tech and check the whole setup.

I went through the same thing as you a while back and the guy found out the initial installition was hooked up wrong and my phone line had switched pairs.

Check with neighbours who are with Aliant and see what they are getting.

Aliant is not the fastest DSL, but beats Cable when a lot of people get online.

Here's a link to my Speed History and I consistently get above the 5 mbps D/L speed, although U/L speeds aren't that good. My connection is basically the same no mater what time of day or what day of the week. When a lot of people are online the speed doesn't slow down like Cable does.

Keep bugging Aliant and Good Luck - I'm sure they'll get it right and you'll be a happy customer.

bit of help

Try using TCP Optimizer (»www.speedguide.net/downloads.php)

I had the same problem, but after using this program I now have consistent download speeds of about 5Mbps. Upload still sucks, as it doesn't get boosted with the upgrade to Ultra.

If you decide use this program, make sure to run it again after installing Windows Updates, as the settings might be overwritten!

Re: bit of help

Did the initial installation use a splitter. My speeds were inconsistent until a splitter was installed and a dedicated internet jack. I was at 8 but since my modem fried the tech put in a new splitter - now I am cosistentent at or slightly above 5 - really can't complain.
