it's probably more of a problem with the 2wire modem (assuming that's what you got)

there was a batch of those that had a major issue with the number of sessions that p2p would open up

it's since been fixed with a firmware upgrade, but it's possible you got one that just hasn't seen the upgrade yet.

fwiw, I use utorrent quite a bit as well, and don't run into that issue
