you need to update your modem

Powerboost doesn't work because that modem is too old.

I have that same plan with comcast, 8mbps/768kbps.

I had that modem too, and powerboost didn't work. This is a wild guess but I'm assuming that modem is DOCSIS 1.1 and powerboost needs DOCSIS 2.0.

When I updated my modem to DOCSIS 2.0 (Surfboard 5201), powerboost worked fine! (about 16Mbps download and something huge upload!)

Re: you need to update your modem

Just so you know, Speedboost doesn't work when hooked up through a router. I was getting about 15mb before I got a router, then after hooking it up my service went to the normal 6mb. I removed the router and it went right back up to 15mb.

Re: you need to update your modem

I hook up to a wireless access point connected to a router and my speeds are up to 16Mbs down and 2Mbs up. The router is an old SMC 7004. I suggest you try a different router if your current one causes a drop in speed.

Re: you need to update your modem

Thank you all, but PowerBoost did work with that modem and that router is pretty capable.

It is possible that this particular head end has become over committed and that at some point, hopefully soon, Comcast will do something about it. I'll keep poking at it.
