Why pay $79.95 while one can get $39.95???

CapuNet is great. Great service, great installation and, take a deep breath, GREAT prices. I ordered Earthlink DSL with 1.5 Mbps down and 384 Kbps up for $39.95. It also includes 5 email aliases and 10 MB webpage space. No static IP is offered though. Since Earthlink and CapuNet are the only ones offering DSL around Gaithersburg area, I choose Earthlink.

Granted that Earthlink's customer service is not as nearly good as CapuNet, but they both use Covad to provide DSL services. So I expect the uptime reliability to be about the same. I put my order in on 9/14 and still waiting to be connected. But for a difference of $40 per month, I'd rather wait a little longer and save in the long run.

Re: Why pay $79.95 while one can get $39.95???

I've had Earthlink/Mindspring since May, but I'm still paying $49.95 per month. I saw other mentions of the lower price, but didn't see it on their web site. I recommended Earthlink to my daughter in Richmond and she is having it installed soon. How can we get in on the lower price? My choice also was between CapuNet and Mindspring and I went for the higher speed at the lower price.

Capunet is higher $$$. But I was paying $60/month for 128K ISDN, so the extra 19$ for 10 times the speed seemed OK.

Would I like $40/month... you bet. But my line hasn't dropped once in 6 months and the speeds are consistently high. I'm willing to pay for that reliability and good support. Eventually when the other providers get their acts togehter and start providing equally good service for $39, Capunet will have to lower their price. When I'm ready to renew my service, I'll press them for a lower rate anyway and see what happens.

capunet?

your having an identity crisis, you should be reviewing covad not capunet. capunet was swallowed up by network access solutions, which was swallowed up by covad. capunet has been long gone for ~4 years.
