| TELUS taking advantage of suckers The fact that TELUS is already using ADSL2+ technology, but refuses to offer higher speeds (10+ Mbps) at a low price is totally embarassing to the country - some third world countries provide better ADSL service! Yeesh! In addition, there is a rumour that the modems were deliberately configured to prevent anyone from getting access to higher speeds. IMO, this is illegal.
On the other hand, TELUS knows Canadians are complete suckers for spending so much money on things with low value, so screw you.
In today's standard, people should only be paying $15/month for 6 Mbps line. TELUS is screwing the people by a difference of $20. Multiply that amount by millions and that equates to a lot of $$$ stolen by TELUS. Criminals. This is why internet must be nationalized. Free market doesn't work in the long term. | |

| Telus as overpriced as any other in Canada As the above poster noted, Canadians are overcharged for their highspeed internet services, and, unlike many other countries, most Canadians have a cap on the amount they can download. I'm not sure if this is still the case but South Korea and many other Asian countries had the lowest highspeed internet prices and I think most, if not all, did not have download caps. Ultimately it's just all about money. Canada has maybe 1 or 2 service providers in a given area, and smaller providers, if any, are basically only resellers as they rely on access to lines of the bigger providers. Basically, internet service is monopolized and thus providers charge whatever they want, under whatever conditions they want (ie. download and speed limits, lack of customer service, etc). Not that the public actually cares. This is a country of people that quitely still paid the higher exchange rate price even when the Canadian dollar was on par with, or higher than, the US dollar, and, when asked if it bothered them, said "no, what can you do?" | |

It took quite a while between signing up and actually getting service. This was not so bad since ADSL was just being deployed in the area. Price was around $45.00 per month for 1500 down and 512 up. A D-Link modem was supplied with no firewall or router features. Download speeds were around 165 kb/s."
that sounds exactly like my first hook up with Telus as far as dates, prices, and speeds. I joined around 2000 as well and now I'm sure of the year because of what you posted (also was just rolled out in my town, same $45/month for 1500down/512up but I had the 3Com HomeConnect and was coming from AT&T dialup. Hell I still have the original booklet that the installer brought over! | |
