SMOKIN' BABY!!!

I just have to say that my experience with adelphia couldn't have been smoother! I have been a Verizon DSL subscriber since march, but since the beginning of august have barely been able to get a connection.. I've been using thier backup shitty dialup service - typical downloads ~ 2.5kbps.... Well got frustrated with them so called Earthlink to get their DSL which was new in my area. I found out they still went through Verizon, and was a little discouraged by that but, thought once I got hooked up things would be cool. Well after two no-show appointments from Verizon, enough was enough. Last WEdnesday, I called Adelphia which just recently started serving my area with 2-way service. Both the tech and the cable runner showed up on time, and by 3:00 pm yesterday I was "live" 5 days from first call to adelphia to live connection, and here's a typical speed test :

Your line speed:

2318.2 Kbps

284.1 K bytes/sec

from here: http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest500.asp

for 10 bucks less than Earthlink was going to charge me, plus the modem was free, the installation was free, and the first month was free..... I feel like a slave freed from Verizon's bondage.....

Dynamic leasing of IP address's

OK folks, here how it works, this is for EVERYONE talking about the so called 'static' IPs

The IP address are in fact NOT static, and they are leased for 3 hours via DHCP. Here's where still having the same IP for a long time comes into play

If you leave your box on, and the cable modem, all DHCP is going to do is renew the lease == get same IP for another 3 hours. It's easier than renewing to a different IP, and less strain on the server more than likely.

You want a static IP? leave your box on all the time... you care about getting new IPs, turn your box off at night, when you reboot in the am, more than likely you'll have a new IP

Well First off there tech surport sucks big time. I've talked to 11 people and still I don't have any newsgropus as there server won't let me down them it always says 480 Authentication Required. Also on Chat servers my reverse and forward dns does not match which means I can't get on most servers. One tech surport told me that would prevent me from getting on the news groups. The the next refered to tech person told me that wasn't a problem. Anyhow I would think twice about signing up with them until they get some people that care enough to do there job and solve issues.
