You Just About Hit The Nail On The Head

You Just About Hit The Nail On The Head
We should take up a collection to get you off Win95 but you're right about tech support not knowing what to do about slow lines and dropped connections. There is no obvious reason other than the software and machine configuration, which is why they seemingly drag you through all the settings to no (most of the time) avail. They are set up to make sure your end is set up and everything from where the phone line goes into your "modem" to the CO is either an unknown variable or intermittent problem that is impossible to catch with their tools. Your observations concerning OS and machine architecture are correct also. I recently changed from 98 to 2kPRO and gained nearly a 100% improvement in speed. I also had trouble as you did getting the registry edited in 98. DSL is an interesting technology, almost as interesting as ATM and all it's incarnations, but I don't plan on making it my life’s work. The connection works, it's faster than what I had, I'm happy, now lets move on

Re: You Just About Hit The Nail On The Head

Hey, just reading over the reviews you guys are giving us... I have to be honest, alot of our tech support is inferior. But the reason for your slow speeds or dropped connnection could very well go beyond your PC. If your computer is fine, it's likely a line issue. I feel sorry for alot of our customers, I've just started taking to this board and seeing if I can get the 'problem orders' up and running by taking customers through a couple of back doors. I have AOL IM at work, if anyone has any DSL issues they would like to discuss, post your screen name and I will get into contact with you. I'm an third level engineer, so I have twice as many tools as your normal tech support agent. One thing I must say I can't do is reveal my name or any contact info aside from Instant Messenger, now that I got that over with, let me know who needs help!
