| | | Re: oh my gawd $349 a month!!! Lots of money indeed, but it is for a business and it is not ADSL, it's SDSL 1.5, so it may be OK (look at Earthlink prices for SDSL for instance). | |

| | What is the ping like?
What is the ping? Who's the real ISP that owns the line? Where are your packets being routed to?
You should have gotten a dedicated line (256Kb). If your line goes down, they have a turnaround time of =1 day. It's part of your service agreement.
As for SDSL. It's still "best effort". Which means if your line goes down. You'll have to wait possibly more than a day.
INYC folks are a bunch of lying used car salemen, selling you other ISP's internet connectivity.
|
| | | Re: What is the ping like? Can you provide more details as to why you don't like iNYC? Currently, I subscribed to AceDSL but no DSL connection for two months now. Today is my second connection date and no DSL. Thinking about iNYC and I would suspect that they should have better service and shorter installation period since they seem to charge more for their service than other DSL providers. | |
|
| | | | Re: What is the ping like? Well, For one thing, INYC is a reseller of connectivity. Therefore, depending on your area, you'll most likely receive a connection that will hop you into another state, and then some. Therefore you're going to suffer from serious latency issues.
INYC doesn't ever state that they are resellers. This is false advertisement in my opinion. They don't have their own back bone and they rely on other companies to provide their customers with internet service.
INYC is not responsible for providing service. They are mere delegates that will call the provider that is hosting your connection. You cannot even decide which provider you're going to get.
If you do get INYC, you'll notice that your packets will get routed to some unknown location in another state. Like me. My packets get routed into California. I live in NY.
You're better off waiting for Road Runner. I live in Queens and it's here. I'm going to switch to cable modem ASAP. INYC is deceptive. Even though I've signed a 2 year contract I'm going to break it. If they charge me, I'm going to small claims court to recover the cost. They don't even state in their contract that they are resellers.
In the end INYC doesn't own the internet connection between you and the the internet. IF anything happens all they can do is call and wait for something to work.
Most people don't notice what INYC is doing to them.
Good Luck. | |

| | | | | Re: What is the ping like? Thanks. Guess I should wait for AceDSL to get the problem fixed. Correction, more like a month of waiting for AceDSL/Verizon to connect my line, not including BA strike. No RoadRunner here in Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay area. In fact, in my area, we don't even have TimerWarner cable. We have CableVision but they don't provide Internet access in my area. | |

First off iNYC is not a reseller.......iNYC has its own backbone in fact iNYC is a CLEC (competitive local exchange carrier) they install T1 and MTU solutions as well as DSL.....There is a reason why they have been rated number 1 in almost every state, and the reason why our customers love us so much....that reason is dedicated service and unmatched customer support.....read the reviews....see the ratings .....

| | | | | | | Re: What is the ping like? Bullshit!
Tell my why fastpoint.net is providing my ADSL internet connection? Yeah I have a contract with INYC.com
Why is my ip address located in fastpoint's domain?
Why hasn't INYC moved me to inyc.com domain?
INYC is a reseller. Don't lie! I am living proof. I've been told they are going to have their backbone set up. This was months ago. THey never called or emailed me...
Yeah I did receive a call asking me if I want to change my ISP provider to one of their partners, because the partner has a Point of presence on the east coast. Big fucking deal...
SO don't lie and tell me that INYC has their own backbone...
Does INYC host their own Mail server? or is it still on cosmoweb or whatever.
If INYC does have their own backbone then they should notify their customers (ADSL + SDSL). Provide an option to switch to INYC's backbone...

| | | | | | | INYC.COM abosolutely is a reseller. I have ( soon to be had ) a SDSL line in Ohio. Northpoint is my CLEC. PSN.NET is my ISP. At least they were. According to everyone here at DSLREPORTS and a letter I received from Northpoint, PSN.NET and Northpoint no longer do business together. My service has been out for over two weeks now. I have been riding INYC's ass for an answer and when I am able to speak with Tech Support, David cannot give me any answer other than "I contacted PSN.NET and they said they are having service problems in your area and do not know when they will be resolved". I too have a two year contract, but that will soon terminate because they have breached it.
I used to praise these guys for their swift and effective responses ( although I have never had a working email account ). Its a shame, but I must stress that this ongoing fingerpointing would not happen with a non-reseller service.
Oh yeah, if they are there own ISP, why can't they direct me to their gateway instead of PSN.NET ?
