| Verizon tech support??? said by fcapes: telling me they know what my problem was, I should re-install Windows!!
Verizon tech support absolutely amazes me. No matter what problem arises with their service, they try to blame it on your computer configuration. I called once to complain that my line was running unusually slow and the Verizon tech had me check to see if I had Windows TCP/IP installed. Yeh it would be kinda' slow if I didn't have TCP/IP installed! They have a set of procedures but no real idea of what they are doing. I wonder how many nightmares they have caused by telling people who are less aware than you to "reinstall Windows". I shutter to think.

| Trade-offs For the past 7 months in Coney Island, Brooklyn, I've had nothing but great experiences with Verizon DSL when using a Dell Pentium 3 with Windows XP and 512 Megs of RDRAM. Sure, it's 1/5th the speed of OOL, but until OOL gets here, it's the next best thing. Some points: (1) Pentium 4's and 3's definitely o better with all broadband connections; even maximizing memory on my Pentium 1's wouldn't get them to match the speeds I get with my P3 and P4's that I repair. (2) The operating system matters: With XP, its built-in PPOE client has worked wonders for me. (You don't need WinPoet.)
Good luck. | |

@attbi.com | Never going back I used to have Verizon DSL for $50 a month. It took Verizon one month to activate the DSL line though. Service was spotty at best and cut off frequently. Thank goodness I no longer do business with Verizon DSL.

| Verizon seems to be a HOME RUN in our area! Verizon in the part of North-Eastern Pennsylvania I live in...seems to have hit a HOME RUN!
They have some happy customers (over all, that I have interacted with).
I do not work for that company, but I have had words (positive) with their (more than one) technicians and customers (more than one).
I was impressed!
If Verizon takes a stance with online gaming as SpeakEasy does... Verizon will be (could be) the Bruce Lee (May they rest in peace, July 20, 1973, son-March 31, 1993) of Broadband!

| OOL Works For me I'm reading all of this stuff in amazement. At first I had verizon online DSL, which promised it's super high speeds. This was a lie all in itself. When I first ordered I had to wait 3 months before I got any sort of "self-installation kid". Thankfully I am somewhat computer literate and didn't need their tech support to help me out. Once installed, I would get download speeds of 30k max. I called up Verizon and asked what the problem is. We went through the problem of checking the NIC config on my computer. Then they gave me some crap about "how old is your house, sometimes our new wiring is incompatible". Then I got real ticked cause i was getting half the service for full price. They said that they would compensate me for the "lack of service" I was recieving. Unfortunately, I was not. It DOES turn out though that I needed to reinstall windows, which I did, and got the normal speed of around 65k. Although this was "oh so much faster" it still wasn't satisfying me. I had many outages and had to call them and wait on hold for a half hour to hear the same thing over and over. 65k may be a big jump from 4k but the upload isn't something to brag about either. The upload I got was around 10k if I was lucky. I eventually got more speed hungry and tired of the service that they had provided me. And, considering I live in north Jersey where Optimum Online was available, I decided to switch to them. The sent me a kit in 3 DAYS! I just plugged it in and went. Installation was easy and speeds were absolutely phenomenal. With downloads of 900k max and an upload of around 120k you can't go wrong either way. I agree with the person above in him saying "if you have a choice". If you do have a choice choose the higher broadband. I was paying 50$ for DSL!!! I switched to OOL and now only pay 40$ for so much more broadband. Unless Verizon magically upgrades their broadband higher than OOL's and for the same price it's at, don't by it. Garbage if you ask me... | |

| lol Theres this new invention in town, its called fIOS and it rox cable in every way. Might wanna check it out.
This is like the commecrial for OOL comparing themselves to DSL in response to a FiOS commercial. Cable is the new DSL. Maybe the new dialup.

| OOL and cable Comcast service sucks compared even to verizons better dsl packs...a tip for anyone; Get Business dsl and get a STATIC IP and get 2500 down and 740 k up for 69 a moth...Comcast ofers NO static IP and if you mention anything about Upspeed they will take you out into your backyard and execute you. Comcast is NO choice for internet professionals needing upspeed and a static iP that you can attach your own domains to. As for FIOS its been 5 years I am waiting and half my town has it but I live in the poorer end of town. Poor areas and minorities are the last to get service from the phone company...we were dead last when DSL came out and now we are dead last for FIOS. | |

@comcast.net | Terrible experience I have an experience that has been going on since march 2008 with verizon and it has been a nightmare.. i'll probably post it soon enough. Just don't even bother with their service if you have a choice.
