Sebastopol

Went to the farmers market today up there. Flash back to the 60's or Fairfax.
A fair majority look like they just did acid
Many Chicks don't shave their pits, I saw at least a half dozen.
50 year old bikers with those biker shorts advertising their manhood :o
The rock band was good, but they won't let them turn it up enough to do them justice.

Positives:
The weather was good
The people though in a time warp are all great people
The heirloom tomatoes are everywhere
The prices on Veggies are great, and local
The 20 something hottie in the thong who changed into those thin tie die pants at the vendor booth was worth the whole trip. Great butt, but needs a tan.
Gotta love Sebastapol, with that kind of entertainment I may go back and offer to buy her some of those pants if she'll just try them on again :D

PG&E Extended Outage Payment - Did You Get Yours?

Just wondering if anyone whose PG&E power was out for more than 48 hours in January ever received payment.

My power was out for nearly 60 hours beginning January 4th.

PG&E said they would send "inconvenience" payments with 60 days. I never got one, and forgot about it until someone reminded me.

I called today and the rep was very courteous and told me they would investigate the matter and I should see the check in a week or so. She told me they had a LOT of them to send out, but they were all supposed to have been sent by the end of June.

It's only $25 in my case, but every little bit helps!

The number to call is 1-888-743-4743.

Adventure time!

Well, the adventure started last week, but it's getting better and better. I'm starting grad school in Edmonton, Alberta at the beginning of next month.

My Dad decided that the best way to get me there with my stuff was to take the motorhome and drive. After 4 days of (very) scenic driving through Nevada, Idaho, and Montana, we're now in a small town just northwest of Calgary.

Tomorrow we'll be driving a good portion of the Icefields Parkway through Banff and Jasper national parks.

Today we drove through part of Glacier National Park in Montana and saw some gorgeous scenery.

Due to the sheer number of hours behind the wheel, I've gotten a crash course, so to speak, on driving a 27 foot RV. Not bad but it definitely takes more attention to keep in the lanes, especially in gusty wind!

I'll keep posting, but it will definitely be from a different locale!

How fast can you REALLY drive thru tolls using Fastrak?

I'm a Fastrak noob. I've been going through the Fastrak lanes on weekends, and I'm doing the posted 25mph, but people behind me seem to catch up FAST, and people in front of me take a bigger lead.

How fast can you REALLY go through the toll gates where the transponder will recognize your device and beep?

[Serious] Server connectivity options in Potrero neighborhood of

Actual broadband questions seem a little off-topic on this board, but I am going to venture one anyway:

I live in San Francisco now and run a modestly-trafficked web server out of my home (along with other services like my private email domain, ssh, etc off the same box) through Speakeasy DSL. I've seen various complaints here about Speakeasy, but I've been happy with the service, especially since I don't have an active land line and can use their OneLink option.

I am now planning on buying a home down in the Dogpatch area of Potrero, so I gave Speakeasy a call and checked on availability at that location, and it didn't look very good. So what are my options here, particularly if I am on a budget (< $150/month) ? I know cable doesn't like servers and presumably all DSL options are off the table.

And, as a last resort -- I would be sad to not have my trusty server box in the other room -- what about local colocation? I searched around a bit, but I'm seeing prices on the order of $199 which is a good deal more than I'm paying for the bandwidth that I'm getting now which covers regular household use in addition to the server use.

Thanks for your suggestions.

[Serious] Prop 8 property tax relief - anyone else filed for it

I bought my house in 5/2005, minutes before the bubble burst and property values began to drop. Each year I've asked for a review of my property taxes and a reduction due to the lowered property values. They would not give a reduction for 2007-08 so I requested a formal hearing. That was today. If you're going to do this BE PREPARED. I had no idea how this was done and made mistakes in preparation. The board will review my info and the info provided by the assessor's office and send me a decision in two weeks. My initial impression from them is I'm not going to get a reduction. I had an 11 page packet, and I should've been better prepared with more info and pictures.
I'll knock them dead with my presentation for the 2008-09 property taxes. ;)
