Tracking.....

For anyone interested, Tim (uid://902170) has a Twitter account that he keeps up to date as he can while he's at sea: http://twitter.com/Beringse

And he posted this link to show where his ship is. It's really kinda cool.
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?centerx=30&centery=25&zoom=2&level1=140

Once you're in the link, Tim is currently off the coast of Washington state. His ship is the American Dynasty this trip out, and he should be out another week or so. The site is really detailed and you can even track the path of a ship.

So, we can now see where he's turning laundry pink, getting hit by flying pots and pans due to high seas, and generally causing mayhem and disorder. :D

[WA] King County / Green River Flooding this Winter

My mom lives in Kent and mentioned in an email today that it's possible that there will be serious flooding this winter due to an issue with the Hansom Dam that has been controlling water flow / preventing flooding since before its completion in 1962.

Most of you in the area have probably already heard about this but just in case you've been living under a rock and only visit dslreports.com ;-)

http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/FloodPlan/GreenRiverValley.aspx

http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090930/us_time/08599192650300

And a very good video from the public meeting held on 9/9:

More videos at youtube.com:

And even if you're not in the area, this is great site on emergency planning:

Let's everybody be safe this winter!

EDIT: Oh, I totally forgot about this very cool and new tool they're providing: http://www.rpin.org/rpinweb/

You can sign up for notifications via email, text, etc. -- anyone can sign up so if like me, you don't live in the area but need to keep an eye on the situation.
