[XP] Weird tracert results

I already gathered that the times that are reported are not...accurate. But has anyone ever seen tracert results that look like this:

How to sync data across FiOS?

I have Verizon FiOS 20/20 line at home and at my parents house

Both have identical WinXP machines with 2TB of space - kind of file servers

What's a good way to set it up so that once I modify (add/delete/change/move/...) data on my home machine it would also replicate on the machine at my parents house? as a media backup...

Thank you...

[XP] Help with a bizzare speed problem

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have four computers networked at home, two wired and two wireless. Two running Xp, one xp pro, one win98.All are Dell machines.

8meg down connection from Cebridge cable. Belkin Pre-N router

All of the Boxes speed test at just above 8meg.

One box (xp)will test at 8meg 2 or three times then drop down to 4k on the next test and stay there until I reboot or reset the modem.

Tried hooking this box up directly to the modem and got the same results.

replaced cables no difference

Decided that the built into the mother board network was flaky. Bought a PCI network card, have the same issues.

The connection never goes away it just drops from 8meg to 4k and stays right there.

Another interesting thing is that if I move the cable from the router to a direct hook up with the box, windows networking can not find the connection until I reboot or reset the router.

I am at a complete loss as where to check next.

Traffic seems slow on Gbit

Hello again folks, I ended up buying the Linksys SD2008 Gbit switch. Installed just great with no trouble.
I'm concerned with the actual throughput that I see.
Both nics show auto negotiation and in Task Manager "networking" tab the Link speed shows 1Gbps for each. When transferring an encoded .mkv file of 12GB size it rarely gets over 25MB/sec and usually sits between 10-15MB/sec. When I transfer a ton of smaller files it gets up to 40MB/sec but usually sits between 10-30MB/sec. These are both gbit onboard nics from 2 new Asus boards. Any bottle necks here or is this acceptable for gbit lan transfers. It's certainly faster than it was through my 100Mbit router I used before but still just seems sluggish. Measurements were taken via DUMeter installed on both machines. Any suggestions?

[XP] Lots of problems...

Lots of problems here folks, could really use some assistance.

Well after recently moving to florida my internet connection has drastictly sucked down here. Bellsouth if your wondering, not sure if its good or bad as a provider, but Im really starting to think it sucks.

Heres the issue, Ive used the tools provided, download seems to be around 2-3 mb down, and about 300k up. When I do a packet loss test, there is 1-2 really bad hops in each section. Another issue is Dr TCP doesnt seem to be working on my system, I can run it, make changes, but when I restart and do the tweak test, it still tells me to change the same settings, such as MTU and RWIN. When I reload Dr TCP, the settings still show the same, so Im not sure whats up there.

Modem: WestTell
Router Linksys BEFSR41

In general the connection seems fine for browsing the web, but as soon as I get on an internet game, or do anything intensive, the connection seems bunked.

Another issue would be, the Tweak test tells me to set MTU to 1500, but when I do the "ping -f -l www.dslreports.com" command at a prompt, the number I end up with that results zero "packet needs to be fragmented" errors is 1464, at 1465 is when the errors kick in. Any idea why the tweaktest says set to 1500 when the ping test proves otherwise? Not that it matters cause I still cant seem to change this setting via Dr TCP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if there is any info thats needed about the pc that Im on please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance.

[Other] VPN

Hello, I am currently experiencing some issues and they may be normal but I need to ask. I am trying to VPN to my work and I get connected but everything is extremely slow. I was with Insight and now Comcast. And it seems to have become worse since the change. My speed test results for download go from 10meg to 1meg when connected in VPN. Is that normal?
I have one employee that connects and can't get the applications to load at all. Any suggestions, ideas or explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Wireless something?

Ok, we have a dsl modem that has wireless. However, the modem is in the house and we need the signal in the office about 150 feet away. The house is wrapped in the foil wrapping, so the signal doesn't really get out of the house. We need something that can connect with an ethernet cable to the modem (we'll drill a hole in the house wall) and be outside under the eaves of the house (to protect it) and give a wireless signal to the office.

What the heck do I call this? I've looked at wireless switches, repeaters, etc, but they do the wireless the other way.

Hub vs Switch

Putting costs totally out of the picture, is there anything an Ethernet hub can do that an unmanaged switch cannot do just as well (or even better)? From what I know, I believe that there will never be a situation where a hub is a better choice (again, costs are ignored), but I would appreciate some confirmation.
