Shaw vs Telus : Latency and Jitter

in this post i will be comparing the ping and jitter quality across Canada and the States for Shaw and Telus, my personal reasons behind this are gaming related, but that's still not the only reason better ping and jitter matters, ever since i switched to Shaw i have been hearing that the east coast routing isn't very good, especially to Texas, i have found this to be fairly true and wanted to put some light on the issue, it would be nice if Shaw improved there routing to the eastern and or southern states (at first i thought it was an eastern problem, now i'm thinking its a southern problem, as Shaw does have fiber going across most of Canada it helps with north eastern connections allot actually.

For this test i used the same laptop, for Telus wired directly to my v1000h, 15 meg plan, vdsl2+ on the 17a profile, 1 other computer was connected wireless i believe but doing nothing on the network, i performed all tests at least 3 times to ensure consistency and the best results possible

for the Shaw i have my Cisco DPC 3825 in bridge mode, bb100, 1 IP to one Xbox (which was in use during test, probably hosting) and 1 IP going to my router (D Link DIR 655) which was directly wired to my laptop, and i did have a few devices connected to the DIR using the network, i will perform direct tests to the Shaw modem at 0% network capacity in order to ensure i'm not loosing anything as it passes through my router(i suspect saving 1-3 ping, and possibly getting ride of a little jitter), plz ignore the differences in distance to locations as the internet thinks the location of my Shaw IP is north eastern canada

i will do cities in alphabetical order, Shaw first, then Telus.

[BC] packetloss for non-local servers?

Right now I seem to be having issues with packetloss to any server that seems to be non-local.

I get a lot of web timeouts right now, and even pings seem to be showing packetloss to servers outside of my local area (lower mainland of BC.)

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

The bandwidth counter on secure.shaw.ca is only showing about 45gigs transferred this month (its been at 45gigs for about 10-14 days now). I've actually transferred over 200gigs with my computer alone, and we have an AppleTV, and a few other computers I'm not counting on top of that.

[BC] youtube issues

typically:
360p video loads "as needed" at like 1500 kbps.
When I click 720p or 1080p, video quality immediately switches, and video loads to completion at maximum speed (sustained 97-99 mbps). No delay in videos starting to play.

last 2 weeks:
When I click 720p or 1080p, the gear icon starts turning. Video quality does not immediately switch, but rather switches when the buffer for 360p video runs out. Video does not load to completion, but loads a few minutes of buffer, then stops (and only sometimes continues as the buffer is used up). Speed seems to be capped at 30 mbps. Sometimes the video will end when the buffer is exhausted, leading to weird things like 12:14/12:14 for a 30 minute video... Some videos take several seconds to start playing/loading.

I noticed this new behavior started when I logged into my Youtube account (I rarely upload videos, so I don't login much). Is there any way I can again get Youtube to behave properly? The slow loading, delayed quality switch, and buffering issues are driving me nuts. Youtube is the only thing affected.

Shaw DNU Miconception

lets start this with 3 questions

1. how many of you are in an area where DNU phase 2 is complete

2.how many of you currently get the phase 2 upload speeds (plz post pictures)

3.how many of you have been waiting for the DNU phase 2 to complete, better upload speeds, or both (assuming you are aware we are suppose to receive a bump in upload once DNU phase 2 is complete)

now 1 more question

how many of you understand if or why the DNU needs to be completed to get better upload speeds?

thats the big question

now what if i told you, the phase 2 DNU has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with increasing upload speed, my guess is you would probably be a little confused like i was

now to explain, cable works on a wide band of frequencies, upload is between 0-108MHz, and im almost positive shaw isnt even making full use of all that, the DNU is pulling channels to free space for download frequency, not upload, the channels that are being removed are all between 200-800MHz

why shaw has not upgraded everyone's upload is mind boggling to me, but whats even crazier, is how the refuse to bump mine up and tell me if i want it to buy bb100, this is garbage and needs to change, im waiting for a DNU for no reason because shaw doesnt know what there doing. ya that makes sense

i should also add that if the telus 50/10 were to be available in my area, i wouldnt be able to stay on the shaw unless they were able to match the speeds by that time, and i dont expect telus taking that much longer to get it done
