Slow speeds at night 15mbps package

Is there something I can say to Shaw when I call in to complain. First thing in the morning the net is great but I think my node is extremely overly saturated because at night I'm getting seriously slow speeds.

I called yesterday and they ended up trying to sell me the 25mbps package as a solution. The node can only handle 76mbps so how the hell is getting the 25mbps package going to help when 20 other kids probably have it.

Trouble faxing a particular number with Shaw Digital Phone

We have trouble sending a fax to a particular number with Shaw Digital Phone. Unfortunately, the issue manifests itself as our fax saying the send was successful but the receiving side saying it failed. End result: the sender has no idea the fax did not arrive and the receiver has no idea there even was a fax.

I checked with the receiver. Their carrier is Rogers. Rogers started a "call trace" and had me send a great deal of faxes while the trace was running. They stated they could find no problems.

I have tried multiple fax machines, verified these machines work with other carriers, set the baud rate to 9600, and turned error correction off.

As far as I know this issue only happens with one particular number but I cannot say for sure because my fax machine always reports a successful send.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Problems with Shaw DNS

I just spent half an hour trying to get my laptop internet access working before I finally eliminated everything but the Shaw DNS as the possible problem and changed my router to use OpenDNS. Problem solved immediately. I didn't notice the problem on my desktop computer earlier because it uses Treewalk, the ultimate solution to DNS problems caused by ISPs.

From Shaw I'm getting:
Domain Name Servers 64.59.144.90, 64.59.144.91

These are not working correctly. I can successfully (but very slowly) look up some urls, but most time out.

I switched back and forth a few times between Shaw DNS and OpenDNS to be sure. Every lookup works immediately with OpenDNS, most fail with Shaw's DNS.

Anyone else encountering this problem?

Update: Well, this is pretty weird. If I enter the Shaw DNS addresses directly on my laptop (instead of getting the DNS address from the router), everything is fine. So it's only slow and erratic when DNS lookups go through my router DNS gateway to Shaw - not when lookups go to those same addresses directly through the same router. But the router DNS lookup works fine with the OpenDNS addresses. I've already powered down everything and rebooted everything. This one has me stumped. Something stuck in a cache somewhere that's surviving multiple power-down reboot and DNS purge?

[ON] Devious Billing?

I'm in Sault Ste. Marie and the way Shaw's High Speed Internet works in my area has made me a big fan :)
But every couple of years their billing drives me crazy!
I have had cable television on a month long trial and the bill for the next months service just arrived. This is for telephone, High speed Internet and HD plus cable TV.
I check everything carefully and it looks good. Wait, the Shaw website prices stand alone high speed internet at $43.95 and they provide the modem. I own my modem and they bill me $48.95 and deduct $5 on the bottom line to compensate. So effectively I'm not getting a credit for owning the modem. I'm paying the same as a customer that doesn't own the modem.
I've got 16 days until my divorce from Ma Bell is final and I just may not keep Shaw TV. Bell (I detest them) has better picture quality on HD and I was hesitant to leave them. Shaw's pricing game may be the deciding factor.
If you have read this thanks for tolerating my rant

[BC] Should I leave Shaw Extreme for Telus Turbo

Telus is offering me $28/month for Turbo (15 Mbps) or $10/mth for regular (5 Mbps) to switch. I was told by the Telus rep (he was really nice btw) that in reality, I should only get 3 Mbps with Telus regular high speed.

Any comments on those who have experienced both Shaw and Telus in Metro Vancouver.

Shaw blocked torrents.thepiratebay.org

I can't download any of the torrents from thepiratebay.org, will always give a "Problem loading page, The connection was reset" message.

However the same torrents can be downloaded from other torrent sites. I am suspecting Shaw has blocked certain port of thepiratebay.org.

Any other shaw users have encountered the same problem ?

[BC] Horrible ping and intermitent service.

I finally got reconnected, but I am having some hard issues.
I am using Win7Ultimate, built-in Nforce adapter, no routers and have Shaw highspeed extreme.
The hardware has worked before just fine.
Now I have an extremely high ping. On shaw's speed test it was 1179ms. http://img522.imageshack.us/i/speedtestc.png/ The line test tool here can't even ping me. And my service goes in and out like it's got a mind of it's own.
I have tried various ping fixes and shutting down some apps and services, but nothing has worked.
Anyone got ideas?
Thanks.
