[Rant] The Untouchable Nature of Religion

I am an atheist.

I respect the rights of others to hold any beliefs they choose. However, I don't feel obligated to respect the actual belief. Beliefs are always open to criticism, my own included.

My rant concerns the special treatment religion enjoys whereby it can't be criticized. When otherwise rational people (friends, family, neighbors) find out that I am an atheist, they find it acceptable to impress upon me the huge mistake I have made. Indeed, they take it upon themselves as their responsibility!
However, if I counter their proselytizing by attempting to show them their mistake, I'm told I'm being inappropriate and intolerant.

Why does this only work one-way? Why is it acceptable for theists to say atheists are wrong, but it is not acceptable for atheists to say theists are wrong?

[Rant] Comcast Ripoff proof

I'm supposed to have the Blast service but I don't get anywhere near the advertised speed.
I have and continue to build proof of Comcast's fraud with this tiered broadband service on my Blog at Tuxwerx.
You are more then welcome to use my speed test data in you own lawsuits against Comcast.
There is a lawyer planning a Class Action in Washington DC so Comcast broadband customers may want to talk to him.
I'm working hard to expose Comcast fraud and you may very well see me CNN & Fox News over this Comcast fraud!
My blog is at:
http://www.tuxwerx.com/Blogs/

I will continue running speed tests and that data will be made publicly available on my blog for you and your lawyers to use as you see fit. I'm pushing hard to get Network and Cable news coverage on this too.

[Rant] Airlines safety (plane crash in Madrid)

Well with yesterday's last plane crash in Madrid, I am thinking of not flying for at least 5 years. i am tired of airlines and their bullshit. I am tired of them being sneaky, greedy and EVIL. These bastards only care about $$$. They can go to hell. They won't take my life as they did yesterday. For Christ's sake those people were leaving on a hard earned holiday!!!

They should put in their agendas saferty first and $$$ last. Don't they understand that every time a plane leaves the airport hundreds of lives are at stake?

Here're some comments about this tragic event:

The plane, bearing the orange, blue and white livery of Spain's second largest airline, had been due to leave the airport at 1pm. It began taxiing at 1.05pm but returned to the gate at 1.42pm before eventually taking off at 2.45pm. It was shortly before this that it was reportedly seen coming out of a maintenance shed.

Whay on earth did the bastards in charge of the operation allow the plane to take off? I can't believe it!

The plane involved was an MD-82 and was 20 yeas old. It had been in service with Spanair since 1993 and is one of 36 such models in their fleet.

MD-82s have been involved in several crashes in recent years.

This plane model is known to be of high risk but airlines still use them. WHY?

Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/2592437/Spanish-plane-had-technical-problems-before-crash-killed-more-than-150-people.html

I think we all should take action and refuse to fly until all airlines decide to change their abusive and evil practices.

As a side note, here in Australia Virgin airlines has decide to implement a fee for hand luggage. This means that anything you take with you would be charged instead of the 7Kg allowance (like the rest of the airlines).

They must be freaking joking. They are laughing at the expense of their customers. They party and cash in while we die.

Solution to this problem:

Airlines should become public companies. Then safety would be put first.

Note: I won't die on a plane crash, for sure.

I got a copy of someone's drivers license from ...

Ok this may be kind of long I'll try to keep it short and sweet. On July 13th my fiance and I waltzed in to the Mobile Solutions store in North Town Mall in Blaine MN.

A sales man approached us and we mentioned we were interested in T-Mobile he said great. At the time we were Sprint trying to get out their contract and such but he insisted we give T-Mobile a spin.

I refused as I've had T-Mobile in the past and felt it wasn't necessary. After him not taking no for an answer (Looking back I should of just walked away) I said fine all he needed was a photo ID.

He took the ID typed something into the computer. A few minutes later he returned with 2 free phones and 2 lines I had two weeks to try it out and then after that I'd be charged. The thing is he never took a credit card and no money ever exchange hands, I also never signed a contract stating as such.

After leaving the store I told my fiance don't touch these don't open them we are not using them. They sat in the car for a week until the next weekend we returned to the store to unload the phones and say thanks but no thanks we'll wait to finish working with Sprint.

I should note I was doing some cleaning and threw away a piece of paper that had some info they needed. So when I returned the second time seven days later I didn't have that piece of paper I spoke with the manager explained my situation and said I just want to get rid of them. I even made a comment saying I didn't want these and he said the sales rep in question "does this a lot".

He said that because I didn't have that white piece of paper he couldn't let me return the phones and that the sales rep in question had to do it. He worked on a Tuesday morning and they suggested I come in then.

I refused as I work 40 minutes from the location in question and I don't drive I take a bus everywhere. I'm not taking off just to return some cell phones.

Flash forward another week our two week trial has ended again we speak with the manager I find out the sales rep has been fired and I still can't return the phones with out that white piece of paper.

Due to planning a wedding and my fiance and I working different shifts during the week we didn't have time to go to the store for 2 weeks. Fast forward to last Tuesday we went back to the Mobile Solutions store.

Upon entering the store the manager threw up his hands and said great not you again. I put the unopened phones on the counter and said look all I want to do is return this. He said wait over there (out of the way of paying customers) well I waited 15 minutes nobody helped us.

Finally I walked up to the counter and said look I don't want these just get rid of them I never signed or paid for anything legally I could just go sell this stuff on the corner and profit from this. I'm trying to do this the proper way and you won't let me.

Finally someone else in a tie walks up and says "I'll take care of it" so I figured OK the issue is done and over with or so I thought.

Last Friday afternoon I came home from work and a FedEx box was on my step I opened it and both the unopened phones fell out along with 3 pieces of paper.

1. The white piece of paper that this entire time claimed they didn't have access too.
2. Another almost identical piece of paper but with different phones and plan along with someone else's name
3. Another almost identical peice of paper with differnet phones and plan along with someone else's name
4. A photocopy of a woman's driver license

I got online and found an 800 # for Mobile Solutions and talked to some girl in California and let her know about this issue. She said "well I'm not there so I can't tell you what to do" about when I asked about getting other people's personal information.

She was more worried about getting the phones back and we setup for her to send me some prepaid labels apparently just putting them on the cell phone box is good enough.

Well not satisfied I called again today and spoke with someone else I demanded to speak to a supervisor. I was told "they don't take live calls" and again she said I must send the phones back. I had asked why do they care more about the hardware then me getting someone's copy of a drivers license and paper work. She assured me "upper managment is taking care of it" I said how so she said the employee was fired she didn't say which one though.

She said I still need to send the phones back and I said no because I've tried 4 times and they even sent them back to me she threatened me that they would charge me 250 dollars I scoffed at her and said you don't even have a credit card on file good luck. I pushed the issue about speaking with a higher up and she transferred me to an executive voice mail.

So going back to last friday the woman's drivers license only lived about a mile from me so I went to her house and spoke with her in person and personally gave her photocopy'd license to her. She was very grateful and nice and was happy there are still good people in the world.

I wrote the consumerist and waiting to hear back from "a higher up" at Mobile Solutions. My fiance and I did go and get cell phones that night an official T-Mobile store as we got out of our Sprint contract without an ETFs.

SO just thought I'd rant a bit as I find it disgusting that I got other people's info but then the company doesn't seem to care.

Thanks for reading.

[Rant] Respect for other people's property

Okay, when did it become okay to walk your dog on other people's lawns and let them do their business without permission? Even if they attempt to clean it up, you can never get it all, and sometimes that's even worse since then you can't see it until it's on the bottom of your shoe. Fortunately our house is on an outside corner and doesn't get much traffic, but others get several dogs every day. I'll bet that most of these people specifically stop their dogs from doing it in their own yards because they'd rather stick other people with the problem. I'm curious to see how some of the dog walkers here justify this. If you're friends with the neighbors and explicitly ask them if it's okay, then great, but I'm sure that's a rare exception.

This isn't just a dog issue either. How is it okay to walk on strangers' lawns at all? I'm not some property Nazi who needs his yard looking perfect or yells at the neighborhood kids, but I have the courtesy and respect not to go through others' yards like I own the place. It seems to be a symptom of a larger problem... kids hitting cars with footballs or running into mailboxes (ours won't close any more), drivers carelessly opening their doors and denting other people's cars, etc. Hopefully some of these kids will break the cycle and teach their own kids some respect.
