[Rant] Ammunition Availability

Dammit, why can't ammunition resellers keep ammunition in stock? Whats wrong with people that they have to buy up bulk ammunition from retail outlet stores (Academy Sports, mom-and-pop gun stores, etc...). If you want bulk then go online or to a catalog and purchase bulk but stop buying 30 boxes of 5.56 or .40 at a local retail store... greedy bastards.

In addition to that, whats up with there being NO ammunition available for purchase? Federal .40 caliber Hydra-Shok and generic .40 caliber target rounds are on back order for months from most websites (I stopped checking after I got to website # 24).

I guess I'll have to result to learning how to reload ammunition to supply my own demand for hot lead.

Any suggestion where to turn to for ammunition?

[Rant] Philips long life batteries

2 AA's I bought on sale and after 1 run through my beard and moustache trimmer, they are already worn down.

I mean really, would you have some 3rd party supplier slap your name on something that bad? No I don't blame the supplier, I blame Philips. Even though a supplier really made them, it became a Philips product with Philips being the company that f'ed up.

[Rant] Logitech Quality has gotten far worse

Their quality used to mean something... Then they became too big, and just started upchucking expensive crap. A common problem of theirs recently is their really cheesy assembly of a scroll wheel/middle click to save a penny or two, this usually is one of the first things to fail if not for one of the buttons failing.

He is a history of my logitech devices
--Mouseman Wireless, 7/5 year warranty, transceiver in the mouse started going nuts, I really liked that mouse
--Wingman Gaming mouse, 3/3 warranty, button stopped working, but I also got tired of having to clean it since it wasn't optical.
--MX 300 mouse, 3/3 warranty, no clicky again....
--MX 5000 mouse, 1.5/3 warranty, the internal battery is dying, but w/o the receipt they won't replace it. They offered me a discount to another one of their desktop sets....Bleh, and they don't sell the battery for this device directly either, they couldn't even give me a part number. I don't want another keyboard.
--Basic scroll mouse, 2/3 month warranty, the scroll wheel died, contacted their support, they told me they were going to send me a replacement, never came a week later so I called, and it had never gotten approved??? They said they would have it go out this week...

I'm left with some oem usb mouse with very poor dpi, the wireless with internal battery issues, and a very old Microsoft Bluetooth intellimouse, their first bluetooth mouse, it's dpi is very poor also. However these devices are still working. Even with the speed setting at max gaming with the low dpi mouse requires quite a bit of movement to go all the way across the screen.

Logitech's software ever since windows has been bloated, crashing crap, it was great for dos as it would load into the umb to allow you to have more conventional memory free, but everything since dos, is a bunch of crap.... If you have any non-logitech device connected it defaults the the standard mouse control, but the problem with that is due to their piss poor design it resets the settings for the default mouse drivers every reboot. With logitech you had the benefit of setting the speed, and functions of each mouse, if detected a logitech device as logitech... It didn't detect some of my logitech devices correctly, and didn't want anything to do with them.

I'm likely going to get Microsoft as long as their hardware has good dpi, and seems to have some quality still built into them, however I've seen their sidewinder mouse, that is quite an interesting design so likely not that one. I just can't stomach throwing more money at logitech when I know for a fact the parts they use consist of loose pieces of thin plastic, and very thin metal springs to save a few pennies when it just causes their devices to fail that much faster.

I remember when companies made devices to last, not be replaced right after their warranty was over.

[Rave] TigerDirect shipping...it's GRRRRRREAT!

Dang!

Had to get new batteries for two of the family laptops, and TD was offering the HP 12-cell for less than the off-brand 6-cell, so I ordered two on Tuesday. They estimated delivery on Thursday by UPS ground (normally 3 - 5 business days), so I scoffed!

Well, the scoff is on me. They arrived yesterday evening! Woo Hoo!

Same thing happened with the HP refurb I raved about recently -- got here in incredibly short shipping time.

I'm starting to like TigerDirect!

[Rave] Comcast techs....

I got a notice yesterday that my house had a cable leak. The tech's arrived today and did several tests. They ended up replacing every line in the house and didn't charge me a penny. They added a new wall plate also. They best part is I actually enjoyed the experience. They were friendly and explained everything they were doing. Great job Comcast! Thanks again.

[Rant] Best Buy / Geek Squad UPS

Around a year ago i had an employee go out & purchase an APC UPS from Best Buy.

I was not pleased with the condition of the box & the testing date.

I decided to return it to Best Buy and was informed they didn't have any other of that particular model.

As a 'solution' the employee came back to the counter with a Geek Squad UPS that was 'higher rated'.

This employee felt it was his job to convince me the quality of the Geek Squad UPS was not only equivalent but in fact better than APC.

While i wouldn't give APC a 100% score in quality i feel there's little question that APC > Geek Squad.

After what was nearly an argument i reluctantly took the Geek Squad UPS as an exchange. We really needed it.

Month or two down the road I connected some mostly non-crucial devices (router, external hd's) to the Geek Squad UPS. - No computer.

Fast Forward to today.

What i didn't know:

- Why our server was re-booting at random between 1-3 times a week

- The Geek Squad UPS gives no warning whatsoever for its impending doom.

Wait but.. didn't i say no computer was connected to the Geek Squad UPS??

Yes i did.

So what WAS connected to the Geek Squad UPS?

The external HD's - that were connected to the server.

So guess what re-booted at the exact same time (confirmed in logs) as the Geek Squad UPS going TU?

The re-booting situation had been going on (i hate to admit it) for months. Never been able to figure out the cause.

I suspected it was either something hardware with the server or it was somehow related the external drives.

I would've never guessed it was the Geek Squad UPS.

I pulled the POS out of the closet & took it to another room. Plugged it into another socket. Dead as a doornail. It blinks slightly when hitting the power button and nothing else.

Never emitted any type of warning/beep & still doesn't.

Now my concern is what other (wear & tear) damage it may have caused.

Bout ready to drag it around in the parking lot by its power cord.
