[Rant] Fed-Ex and their lazy drivers

Today I was supposed to get my new server I ordered from HP. I check the online this morning and it said it was out for delivery. When I got back this evening it still said out for delivery. Around 6:20 I checked again and it said delivered. I looked outside and saw the Fed-Ex truck sitting down the street, so I figured he would be here in a few seconds so I wait by the front door. A few seconds later he drives off. I never have this problem with UPS or USPS deliveries. Fed-Ex customer support claims it takes 24-48 hours before they can find out details from the driver. Around 8 I see the truck drive by again. I am never using Fed-Ex again.

[Praise] Walmart employees

There always seems to be a never ending amount of negative Walmart news around but have to hand it to the Walmart employees of this store who sprang into action at the first sign of smoke and helped all the customers safely exit the store in a orderly manner.
____________

A blaze erupted among Christmas wrapping Saturday at a Walmart in Westbury packed with holiday shoppers, but employees were able to round everyone up and safely evacuate the store, a fire official said.

The fire in the store at 1220 Old Country Rd. started among wrapping and decorations stored in the greenhouse, said Patrick Cody, the Westbury Fire Department's assistant chief.

The blaze was called in around 2:30 p.m., The Associated Press reported. An employee noticed smoldering debris and left to get a manager, Cody said. They returned to find four-foot flames and the sprinkler system kicking in.

Workers got on a public address system and told the 2,000 shoppers in the store to evacuate, Cody said.

Julie Colavito, of Howard Beach, Queens, was pushing a cart through the store when she heard the announcement. She grabbed her cell phone and called her husband and son, who were also shopping in the store, and told them to get out.

She said the evacuation was orderly. "It was a little scary, but everything was under control," Colavito said. "The employees helped and got everybody out."

No one was injured, Cody said.

The fire caused between $10,000 and $25,000 in damage, Cody said. The fire's cause is unknown, but it does not appear to be suspicious, he said.

About 75 firefighters put out the blaze, Cody said.

Later Saturday, employees stood outside the closed store, directing away traffic.

"The fire [alarm] system shut down," Cody said. "They can't open the store until that's reset. That's going to take awhile."

No one answered the phone at the store Saturday, the AP said. Representatives for Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. didn't immediately respond to a call or e-mail message.

[Rant] Disrespect of PTO

When I schedule PTO over 3 weeks in advance and you approve it, do not:

1) Give me a hassle when I remind you I'm not going to be there tomorrow
2) Give me a hassle when I say I won't be returning your call for non emergency issues
3) Give me a hassle and tell me "good luck with that" when I inform everyone of this
4) Call me unless it's an emergency

I'm not the only one with this issue and it's a major frustration to a great many people.

Bite me. You give me vacation time. I follow the procedures (and then some) to ensure I can take the time off. You approve it. Deal with it.

christmas music already, Christ!

Here's an email I sent to corporate HQ of HourEyes. But it could've been any store that's already rolled out the barrage of christmas music.

From: Don Libes
Sent: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 1:06 PM
To: Customer Service Support e-mail
Subject: houreyes music

I was in an HourEyes yesterday and found it unpleasant to hear non-stop Christmas music for the half hour I was there. I asked the staff about it and they said they don't like it either but can't do anything about it. Everyone has their reasons (too religious, too early in the season, too repetitive, too saccharin, etc.) Whatever the reasons, the result is - you have customers that don't like it, staff that don't like it; why persist on playing it?

Don LibesTo my surprise, I received a somewhat hopeful response just a few hours later...

Mr. Libes,

I contacted the General Manager of the store and sent him a copy of the email to see if there is anything that can be done. If you have any question please let me know.

Thank you,

Aldo
Customer ServiceMaybe if we all do this, we can finally rid the world of incessant and crappy holiday music that may put people in the mood for all of 10 minutes before driving them out of the store.

Now please tell me how to stop the handbell ringers in front of the grocery store. That is enough to make me avoid the store if only every other grocery store didn't have the same problem.

[Rant] iPhone support

I have a problem with my iPhone where the volume up/down button on the side broke off. It's minor and I can adjust the volume in Settings but to get it fixed or replaced I have to send it to an Apple store or drive to one. The PROBLEM is that the closest one to me is Champaign, IL or St. Louis! I think ATT should be able to support these phones at the local office since there isn't one close. Who's idea was it to not let ATT support these phones? They sure as hell love to sell them but if you got a problem they wash their hands of it and tell you to contact Apple.
