[GOLF] Tiger, Michael Vick most hated athletes

Tiger Woods tied Michael Vick, the dog killer, as the most hated athlete in America. Quite a fall from most admired to most hated.

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2012/02/09/2012020901033.html
Tiger Woods, one of America's favorite sports stars until a few years ago, is now the most disliked athlete in the U.S., Forbes magazine reported on Wednesday, citing the result of a poll by market research firms Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research.

The results show that Woods, along with NFL player Michael Vick, are the least liked sports personalities in the country, garnering a combined total of 60 percent of the votes.

Equal numbers of respondents showed their disapproval of Woods and Vick, but the American football star had a higher percentage of people who ticked the box saying they "very disliked" him.http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ys-forbes-vick_tiger_most_disliked_athletes_020712
The “top” five:

[Auto] F1 Silly season\off season news.

Kimi back in F1 with Renault:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=txf1raikkonenrenault

quote:LONDON (AP)—Former world champion Kimi Raikkonen will be back in a Formula One car next season after agreeing to return to action with the Lotus team.

Lotus Renault GP said Tuesday that the 2007 world champion, who quit in 2009 and switched to rallying, has signed a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old Raikkonen said he is glad to get back into action after experiencing mixed fortunes in the World Rally Championship and a subsequent stint in NASCAR.

“I wouldn’t come back if I wouldn’t be motivated,” Raikkonen said on the team’s website. “There’s always a lot of talk about motivation to race, but nobody really knows what I do or what I think apart from myself, so I don’t really care what people think.

d'Ambrosio is out and Pic is in:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=AqoNVWZeEcr_41dBB0TWcvLov7YF?slug=ap-marussia-pic

quote:PARIS (AP)—Charles Pic will drive for Marussia in Formula One next year, replacing Belgian driver Jerome d’Ambrosio.

Virgin Racing will be known as Marussia Virgin Racing next season. It announced on its website that the 21-year-old Frenchman will drive alongside Timo Glock of Germany.

Kubica not necessarily out of the picture
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/29112011/58/renault-ruling-kubica.html

quote:Renault still want to hold talks with Robert Kubica to see if there is a possibility for him at the team next year, despite signing up Kimi Raikkonen for 2012.

With Kubica having been unable to guarantee the outfit he will be ready for the start of winter testing, Renault moved quickly to secure the F1 return of Raikkonen with a two-year deal.

And although Renault has a contract in place with Vitaly Petrov for next season, team principal Eric Boullier admitted on Tuesday that the outfit was still open-minded about its plans for the second seat - and could not rule out Kubica taking that slot later in the campaign if he is fit.

"All the scenarios are possible," Boullier told Autosport. "I need to sit down with Robert and his manager to understand what is the timescale for him to come back.

[NFL] Is NFL golden age rapidly coming to an end ?

Tackle football, as we now know it, may be rapidly coming to an end. And the mechanism for that end is going to be brain concussions and the lawsuits being pursued at all levels of football - from grade school, through high school & college, up to the pro ranks.

Soon, youth tackle football will be abolished. Nanny government is already on the march to end it:
http://www.huliq.com/10282/super-bowl-xlvi-features-concussion-and-brain-damage-warnings-youth-football
http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/schooled_in_sports/2012/01/could_concussions_be_the_death_knell_of_youth_football.html?cmp=SOC-SHR-FB

And High School & College rules concerning actions taken after concussions will sideline permanently many of the players taking part in their leagues.

And now almost any ex-NFL player that ever had a concussion is taking part in suing the NFL. At least 300 have already joined in, with many more to come. http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/04/health/nfl-lawsuits/index.html

Can the NFL settle these lawsuits without going bankrupt? Sure they can. But the lawsuits will start to change the rules as well as what teams will do with players after a concussion. Many players will be just flat out cut from the teams after 1 or 2 concussions. And rules will make tackling and hard hitting ever more unlikely in a game. Did you watch the Pro Bowl? The Pro Bowl rules are meant to protect players from getting hurt in a meaningless game. But I wouldn't be surprised that going forward, Pro Bowl rules will start to be applied to regular season games.
quote:The Pro Bowl has different rules from other NFL games to make the game safer.

No motion or shifting by the offense
Offense must have a tight end in all formations
Offense can’t have 3 receivers on a side
Intentional grounding is legal
Defense must run a 4-3 at all times
No press coverage except inside the 5 yard line
No blitz
Not allowed to rush a Punt, PAT or FG attempt
No calls can be challenged

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2027053,00.html
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1957459,00.html

We are already seeing some results of this now. You can't hit a QB at all anymore. And receivers are being increasingly protected from hits until they take a couple steps and head up-field as a runner. Look for more and more rule changes to remove injuries from the game. This may be good for players, but the fans don't watch the Pro Bowl and they will stop watching the NFL if all these rule changes take effect.

So, enjoy today's game. Soon your children and grandchildren will be asking you why you thought football was worth watching. Because the game they will be able to see won't resemble in any way the NFL we have watched the past 50 yrs.

U.S. shuts 16 sports piracy websites pre-Super Bowl

The websites are firstrow.tv, firstrowsports.com, firstrowsports.net, firstrowsports.tv, hq-streams.tv, robplay.tv, soccertvlive.net, sports95.com, sports95.net, sports95.org, sportswwe.net, sportswwe.tv, sportswwe.com, xonesports.tv, youwwe.com and youwwe.net.

As prosecutors announced the seizure on Thursday, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, expected to start in Sunday's Super Bowl against the New York Giants, admitted to reporters his own use of an illegal website.

"Last year, you know, I was rehabbing my foot, you know, in Costa Rica, watching the game on an illegal Super Bowl website," he said in a video posted Thursday on the NFL website. "And now I'm actually playing in the game. So it's pretty cool."

The defendant charged in the case is Yonjo Quiroa, 28, who faces one count of criminal infringement of a copyright.

Prosecutors said Quiroa, also known as Ronaldo Solano, operated his websites from his home in Comstock Park, Michigan, prior to his Wednesday arrest, receiving at least $13,000 from online merchants who advertised with him.

Lawrence Phelan, a lawyer for the defendant, said Quiroa was in federal custody and expected to be transferred to New York, after having appeared on Wednesday in a Grand Rapids, Michigan federal court. Phelan declined to comment on the case.

The complaint against Quiroa outlines his alleged piracy efforts from February 2010 to January 2012.

It concludes by saying a U.S. Department of Homeland Security enforcement agent posing as a WWE representative last week offered to buy various domain names associated with the defendant, and received a response offering to "make a deal."

Prosecutors will seek the forfeiture of the domain names for the 16 seized websites.

[NFL] 2011 NFL Playoff Poll

Here is how it works (the same as last year)...

Each week of the playoffs, post your picks for each game.

Important: The order in which you post your picks will determine the "confidence points" that you place on your picks.

The first pick will be worth 4 points, the second worth 3, the third worth 2, and the last worth 1.

The wildcard games (in no particular order) this year are set as follows:

CIN @ HOU
ATL @ NYG
PIT @ DEN
DET @ NO

So, if your picks for the first weekend are posted as...

PIT
NO
ATL
HOU

and the actual results are

PIT
DET
ATL
CIN

Then you would earn a score of 4 + 2 for picking PITand ATL correctly, but no points for picking the other two incorrectly.

The first two weeks of the playoffs will have confidence point values of 4, 3, 2, and 1. The conference championship week will have confidence point values of only 4 and 3, and the Superbowl itself will be worth 4.

The winner will be the person with the most points after the winner of SB XLVI is determined.

I will keep a running tally in a spreadsheet, and post the results weekly so that you can see who is ahead and who is behind, and perhaps adjust subsequent picks accordingly.

NOTE: You must post your picks before the start of the first game of the weekend. Once the first game starts no changes or additions will be accepted.

[GOLF]Huge choke on 18th hole costs 1st win for Stanley

Looking for his 1st win in his 2nd yr on tour, Kyle Stanley CHOKED big time on last hole of regulation and got a triple bogey on an easy birdie hole.

http://tourreport.pgatour.com/category/tournaments/farmers-insurance-open/##
What once seemed like it would be easy has turned into a whole different story for Kyle Stanley.

The second-year TOUR player took a three-shot lead to the 72nd hole but gave all three away with a third shot that spun back off the green and into the water hazard short of the flagstick, followed by a three-putt.2nd playoff hole, Stanley loses his chance for a win:
Stanley’s tee shot hit about 20 feet short and trickled back down the slope of the green. Snedeker hit 5-iron and his ball one-hopped over the green, stopping just below the TV tower. He’ll get a drop, as a result.

Snedeker ends up having to place his ball on the hill. He chips to about 5 1/2 feet for the potential par putt.

Stanley had a 47-footer for the birdie. The ball stops 5 feet, 3 inches short of the hole.

Snedeker makes his par putt but Stanley misses his. The win is the third of Snedeker’s career.Tough break. Winning that 1st tournament is always the hardest one to get.
