Boost/Sprint Signal Went from Marginal to Zilch in Ten Days

I have Boost Mobile, which is powered by Sprint PCS. A few months ago, I was using an iDEN flip phone and had never a problem with reception at home or in my neighborhood.
When I learned that iDEN was shutting down, my wife bought me a new phone for the PCS/800Mhz bands (LG Venice). I found I had no signal in the house, so I had to get a Wilson dB Pro which made it possible to use the phone indoors with a marginal signal.

Oddly, if I aim the directional Yagi that came with the Wilson at the tower down the road from me, I get nothing. I have to aim for a tower several miles away in the next town to get some signal.

Now that the trees have bloomed, my signal went to nonexistent. Ironically, there is a radio tower with cellular antennas all around it, and another tower that is dedicated cellular, 900' south of me. If I walk down past that property, I can get 6 bars of signal and -60dBu on my phone, but on the north side of the tower, I get 1-2 bars and -88dBu or worse. Ten days ago, I was getting 4 bars and -82dBu out by the main road. By my house, it was usually 1-2 bars. Now it's 0-1 bar.

I heard that Sprint is supposed to be deploying LTE which is said to be 800Mhz. Given how my iDEN phone always had great, reliable reception, I would expect LTE to have the same foliage penetration.

I suspect there are no antennas aimed to the north and that this tower is serving towns to the south only.

Whom can I contact at Sprint to let them know about this hole in their service and to find out what the plans are to make my neighborhood serviceable? I was out walking in the neighborhood and half the loop is 'no network' now. I used to be able to use my phone when out walking in the neighborhood. I can see the beacon lamps of the tower, but I can't get the service!

Sprint Offering Unlimited Wireless Internet???!!!

Okay, I just had the oddest conversation ever with a Sprint representative.

As some of you may recall, I have an unlimited data voice plan with Sprint on an HTC Evo Shift phone, which is 4G Wimax.

I've been thinking for a while that, as they get more and more powerful, the time is getting near when I should switch to tablets (even though I've been a confirmed laptop person for more than a decade).

With Microsoft offering the first tablet that is a true computer, the Surface Pro, and with laptop sales having hit the biggest slump in years, the handwriting is clearly on the wall.

So I called Sprint to see what they could offer me in a tablet plan.

And the representative told me something that I found a complete shock.

She told me that Sprint now offers unlimited wireless Internet for tablets and laptops.

She claims that it works like this, and she also said it's been like this for a year, which I find a bit hard to believe.

Here goes.

There are three tiers for both the Surface Pro (which Sprint calls a laptop, not a tablet; reasons are unimportant) and laptops in general. The first tier is a 3 gig cap. That's 34.99 a month.

The next tier is 6 gigs, and that's 49.99.

The highest is 12 gigs, and that's 79.99.

And that's it.

Hey, wait, you say: What's unlimited about that?

Here's the shock. Yes, they charge overages for going over those caps but, and here's the real headline, THEY NOW CAP OVERAGE FEES AT $75!!

Effectively this means that one can get an unlimited wireless Internet account for 109.99 (34.99 + 75)!! Given that the only similar options of which I'm aware are $70 a month on a 50 gig plan from Millenicom or an unlimited account with Wirelessnwifi that costs over $200 to set up, this strikes me as a very interesting deal. (The only way that the 6 and 12 gig plans make any sense is if you genuinely and really only need those amounts per month.)

"But," I spluttered, "what about firing customers for downloading what could be construed as an abusive amount, say a hundred gigs or whatever? What about throttling customers who exceed their caps?"

"Sir, that does not happen. As long as you pay your bills on time, Sprint is perfectly happy. And Sprint has made a long-term commitment as a company to never ever throttle customers under any circumstances ever."

This really sounds too good to be true. Is it? Is there some gigantic string attached to this deal which she conveniently "forgot" to tell me?

4G "fair" at my home- how good would it work?

The Sprint coverage map shows my home having "fair" 4G LTE reception. I do not have access to a Sprint 4G device to confirm that I can in fact get a 4G signal. I am looking to get a USB device for home use and would be willing to set up an antenna.

1) How accurate have you found the Sprint coverage maps to be?
2) Is there any way to "borrow" a device from the Sprint store to confirm that I can get a signal?
3) Anyone else in a "Fair" coverage are that can tell me what kind of speeds they are seeing?
4) Is there any map of Sprint tower locations? I have tried several such as open signal but they do not show any local towers.

I am currently using Verizon 3G but the caps and speeds are not all that useful. I am shown being in the Verizon "extended" 4G area but I hesitate to go with them due to their caps and pricing scheme.

Any advice/help would be appreciated. :)
