XOHM to Clear WiMax transition in Bmore GLITCHES!

I'm one of the folk who transitioned to from my old XOHM modem to the free motorola WiMax modem as Clear (Sprint) takes over XOHM today (Dec. 2). Not a great start.

The modem came quickly two weeks ago, free is good, but I CAN'T SEND out from the house now. I'm wondering if other WiMax people are having the same problem.

I've narrowed it down to a problem between the router (a Netgear WGT624 v3, 108Mps) and the modem (a Motorola CPEi 150 Series WiMax). If I remove the router then the system (WiMax) will send and receive (i.e. on speedtest.net I an measure up load and down load speed). WITH the router in place however I can only download.

Traceroute shows packets stopping at 192.168.1.1 - the router's address. This suggests it's the router. But I think it's still the modem refusing to accept the router's signals (packets) and pass them back to the network (external, internet). There's no port forwarding set-ups, it's been hard reset, same with the modem, all the usual tests and still nothing.

To say the least this is annoying. Anyone else with this or similar problem, or maybe a different router that *does* work?

Alternatives to Smartview for Server 2003

Hi

I'm trying to get my lovely new novatel u760 working on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I've configured the usb device on an XP PC and connected to t'Internet. I managed to successfully install the drivers on my Server 2003 PC, but now I'm stuck.

The Smartview software refuses to install (pops up a message saying "You must be running XP, 2000 or Vista" and closes).

Is there any other software I can use to get this blasted modem to connect?

Many thanks!

Millenicom offering new MBB packages - unreleased!

If you've been reading http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22652004-Speed-cut-due-to-usage you'll know that I've talked to Dennis Castle.

Basically, here's what he told me is happening soon. Millenicom is going to offer 3 tiers of Mobile Broadband. The first tier, for the current price we pay (about 60$ a month) will be capped at 5 gigabytes (he called 5 gigabytes the "industry standard cap" and that most of their users use 5 gigabytes or less, so this would satisfy most people).

Now, before you fret, they're introducing a NEW package. You don't have to take my word for it if you don't want to, but you'll have to take it as it is - I can't prove anything over the internet.

The new package is for 10 dollars more a month, or about 70$ a month, for UNLIMITED bandwidth. However, Millenicom is allowed to only have a limited number of these accounts available - makes sense, considering how much their uplink providers love caps. I can not confirm whether this goes for both Sprint and VZW, however out of context it seems they reached some sort of agreement with both.

Finally, one more cap. This sounded amazing, I was doubtful they had the capital to do this. They will be offering a 4G solution of their own, which Dennis called "Millenicom Ultra". It sounded very much like Sprint's XOHM, however he said this is not through Sprint or Verizon - they're taking this on themselves and building towers. How fast is this? He said "one guy in Phoenix testing this got around 4 meg download". I'm not sure what he meant, megabits or megabytes, but it's gotta be megabits unless Millenicom discovered some type of unknown alien technology Sprint, VZW, and the other big hitters haven't discovered yet :). Where is it available? "We're building this out as quickly as we can - we expect 10 to 12 cities per quarter." That sounds like some pretty freakin' fast buildout! I can't confirm what the price on Millenicom Ultra will be, but I expect a price that is competitive with Sprint's XOHM offering and other 4G solutions out there.

EDIT/UPDATE: I was thinking of some questions that might be asked, and about Millenicom Ultra: Dennis made it pretty clear this is a project they are taking on alone - not like their current WiMax offering with Clear.

When are these new packages available? "Right away. In fact, we're having a recruitment(that's what it sounded like) meeting tomorrow." Tomorrow, which at the time of the phone conversation, was July 6th, or the day that I'm posting this thread.

If you have any questions, post in this thread and I'll answer them to the best of my ability based on what I was told.

4g/3g U300 modem

Just received this and it appears to be terrible speeds for both the 3G and the 4G service. Anyone else tried this device out yet? I live just off downtown Portland and I waited for the 4G service to establish itself but it is getting close to 100-200k down and and 50k up (sprint test from the sprintview utility) and about half that for the 3G service. Getting 2 bars if I am lucky. I was eager to try it but my ATT Sierra 801 card is only 3G and it flies at 1.5m down and 500-700k up constantly from the identical location.

Any one have thoughts?
