Internet dies every other night or so

Every other night (sometimes multiple nights in a row) at around 3:19-3:20AM, the internet goes down. I think it comes back pretty quickly on the modem side but my router doesn't seem to pick up on this.

It will continue to show the the IP and "connected", however it remains I can't connect anywhere until I manually stop and start the WAN on the router when I notice that it's down.

How can I fix this?

Re: Internet dies every other night or so

Start through Rogers in London I have the same problem. It's usually around 2am. Sometimes restarting my modem fixes it. Today was the worst one yet, did it around 1am and again at 2. Restarting the modem fixed it at 1 but not at 2. It's getting pretty frustrating.

Error 4-44-821 again, you can channel up, down or go directly to it and the indicator spins like a summer tire on a sheet of ice

basically been a full year now of shit broken service ever since they went to 1080p and telus billions have not done f all to fix it.

at this point idk why they haven't rolled back to 720p if that's what the problem is they said its something to do with transcoding so i can only assume it was the upgrade to 1080p that broke things.

tbh there hasn't really been any progress on anything since telus took over. other then them finally pushing the android/Bluetooth fix to the crappy stb there hasn't been any app updates to android or firesticks since like April of last year.

he also claimed that by mid dec telus was going to start pre transcoding the signals for start in an effort to fix the issue but been no word or changes so idk if that happened or not.

I think Bell is playing a part, it always seems like its a channel that is owned by Bell Media.

I hate to flog this dead horse but ....

You are right T_B it is Bell's channels that are crapping out. I have not been able to watch the CTV 6:00 Toronto evening news lately. You may have noticed, however, that CITY TV news (Toronto) has never gone silent. My point is that CTV is owned by Bell and that CITY is owned by Rogers. I am a TPIA on Rogers cable. HMMM!

there is us channels that do it to. any chance can freeze up if u watch it long enough.

ccts closed out my complaint on the matter stating that since start don't lock people in on contacts and that u can leave at anytime they don't care if the service they offer is not stable.

I've been on TPIA(Teksavvy) IPTV for several years & am quite happy with the service. First, I was on while on VDSL (50D/10U), then moved to Cable (100D/30U) 2023Jun when Bell decommissioned my landline.

I've never had any TV issue unique to just Bell vs Rogers owned channels. I use my Teksavvy IPTV via a Chromecast or Firestick.

I don't get why folks have put up with the ongoing Start/IPTV issues for so long. I'd have been gone after weeks of frustration, not the months/years you guys have been highlighting issues.

It appears Comwave somehow does offer tv packages over the internet without their internet, available as an app on the Firestick. Just an option.

comwave is also owned by rogers now and weren't they considered a low tier TPIA even before rogers took. wonder how there able to get away with the no internet tv deal no other tpia is doing it?

maybe there doing it like bell/rogers do it were they give u a modem hooked up to them but that has no actual internet access it just connects to there server for tv service only.

The rule is the delivery to the home had to be on a "closed network" It says nothing about having to have Internet from your TV provider.

The only way the TV providers were able to satisfy the "closed network" condition was to require you to be on their Internet service.

You have to understand what the rule actually is, and then understand how the condition was achieved.

Most of these alternative TV providers are shitty enough as it is, they don't need excuses to deliver even worse service.

one can argue it's not 100% closed network, because it does have to go over 3rd party transport and the last mile wholesale network.

it's an asinine rule that I wonder hasnt been challenged all these years later.

exactly and on top of that alot of times traffic over the internet don't take a direct route from 1 town in Canada back to the ISPs office in canada alot of times it can go though the US to make its way back to the ISPs. who knows how many dif companies the signal is being routed though to get from the Isp to u.

seems like bell was the first one to offer IPTV though there fibre tv and if u wanted tv without internet they offered a modem on there network to do it that didn't let u access the internet. when TPIA started branching out into IPTV it seems like bells Rule of it having though to go though there own network just migrated over to them and each TPIA was just wanted to get into IPTV quickly and was to lazy to argue that the rule was stupid.

now that most of the TPIAs have sold out to bell/telus/rogers ect i doubt the rule will change since they don't care if they can complete with each over who gets the tv customer and who gets the internet customer. they would prefer the all or nothing deal that is there now.

start tv app new version? R300.0.3

seems like there is new version of the app out.

google 300.0.3

»play.google.com/store/ap ··· CA&gl=US

apple Version 300.0.3

»apps.apple.com/ca/app/st ··· 20673676

amazon version 300.0.3

»www.amazon.ca/Tangerine- ··· 7KQLNVWM

the apple store shows a release date of feb 14 google shows a release date of oct 2023 and amazon don't really tell u release dates they just show when the original app was put in the store.

seems like quite the version number jump since it went from 140 to 300. normally just that second and 3rd number goes up. and the numbers after the dot go up for minor bug fix versions

don't really see any thing new in the app Tangerine Global global is still the dev so this hasn't been programmed by telus and they have not added any telus branding to the app that i see.

also it looks like they rolled back that shitty update on the back button the close start tv menu no longer comes up. kinda surprised since the manger said they were told to do this by google and there crappy get use to attitude made it sound like they weren't going to go back on it.

now the back button works as it did before if a upper menu is open it will close that down. the only time it brings up the do u want to close the start tv app is if u push the back well everything is closed down and clicking yes actually closes the app now were before it did nothing.

For me, the close app does appear and if you say yes, it closes the app with no run-on stuttering.

If you decide to press the Firestick home button, the Start app will stop cleanly. If you run another app which does not take up much memory, sometimes when you return to the Start app it will pick up where it left off.

The problem of getting stuck in the PVR menu remains, still can take pressing the back button a dozen times or more to get back to the Start app main menu.

Re: start tv app new version? R300.0.3

before though it was coming up when the start tv bar was up if u tried to use the back button to close it out u would get the do u want to close the start tv app that is gone now it only comes up now if all other menus are closed down. and pushing yes actually closes the app were before it did nothing.

its an improvement i guess only minor though fixing a bug that there last update created that wasn't there before.

but it also broke things so badly that they had to roll back 1080p to 720p and whoever made the choose to do that is refusing to give an awnser to the ticket that has been opening for the last week.

Re: start tv app new version? R300.0.3

Have you actually had confirmation that the plan is to roll back to 1080p or was this part of the switch to telus feeds. There are sports that get shown on so many channels that never had the 1080/60 profile that it is painful to watch. The only channels that ever had 1080/60 were a couple of sportsnet channels and 3 tsn feeds but this doesn't come close to covering everything. So many networks including all the US networks plus ctv, global, city and cbc all need to have it. To be honest, i would rather every channel have 60 fps at 720p then to have a few select channels at 1080p/60. The 30 fps is hard to stomach on non sports let alone sports.

Okay, thanks for keeping us updated. You definitely seem to have the inside line on all the latest happenings. It is frustrating to not have a Start rep chiming in when things change and we are left wondering what the deal is.

guy called from support today about the 720p ticket and confirmed that this was done to fix the outage. that happened with the R300 shell released. he says it only affect fire sticks but i can't confirm that since i only have fire sticks.

there is no eta as to when they will be able to fix it and t urn 1080 back on but hey what else is new release broke update then were expected to just live with it for months.

Re: start tv app new version? R300.0.3

That seems to backup what I am seeing. Before the firestick roll back, the firestick seemed to have better picture quality then the start feeds on the Apple TV. I believe this was due to different codecs being supported. Now the Apple TV looks superior to the firestick, so maybe it is still showing 1080p on some channels. The firestick is easy to check the developer tools but with Apple TV it is not so easy to check the video profiles so I am just going by visuals

Rather than starting a new thread I thought I would add to this one. Anyone else seeing the return of the "timeout splash screen" that use to be an issue?
You'll turn the box on, hit the start tv app and it will bring up the start.ca splash screen with its three blinky boxes but after an extended period of time barf out the time out error?

amazon fire stick 4k max never got those errors for some reason. but normal 4k fire sticks did. i upgraded all mine to 4k max gen 1s well those were still happening so didn't know they ever fixed them.

Re: start tv app new version? R300.0.3

My fire stick 4k has never had the timeout problem either but it didn't update to 300.0.3 because its on OS6.
When using my STBs I had frequently experienced timeouts on both of them after the update was installed. Turned of the auto update and uninstalled 300.0.3. This moved the STBs back to 140.8.12. No more timeouts.
I have continued to get errors / freezes on the PVR no matter which device or release I've used.

Start discountuing channels without replacing them with something new

Last year start got rid of the paramount network channel and they now just emailed that MTV2 (channel 806) will be gone as of the 28th. now although these 2 channels are no huge loss it seems lame there removing channels from peoples packages without finding something to fill in for removing them nor are they lowering price to make up for the loss in channels.

even though i guess it wasn't starts choice since this channel is closing down they do have a choice that they could put something new in place of the channels that are being lost.
