[Newsgroups] Astraweb

I signed up for them, pretty happy with the speeds so far, though it's afternoon and not peak time yet. Retention is growing and higher than usenetserver and most others in the price range.

Namipan

Does anyone here use Namipan for uploading/downloading files? It is a China-based Rapidshare/MediaFire-ish clone. The only difference between Namipan and the other file-hosting sites is that Namipan requires you to use their upload/download manager, with which I am a bit wary of using frankly.

astraweb vs. powerusenet

Short story:
Is Astraweb as good as powerusenet (who resell giganews) in respect to speeds and completition esp for ppl in eastern Canada?

Long story:
I am currently with powerusenet which has increased it's retention to 125 days and started to allow posting. Paying 15$/mo

However, I just saw that astraweb has a special at 11$/mo Unlimited DSL - US$ 11 every month

  # No Speed Limits
  # No Download Limits
  # 140 Days Retention
  # 20 Connections
  # You will pay $11 for every month as long as your subcription remains active.

Should I move of should I not?

Easynews is finally upgrading their retention

To 100 and 200 days. The higher retention one being a premium server. Took easynews long enough. I bet they were finally forced to because if they didn't all other newsgroup provider would of left them in the dust. Still no unlimited accounts but I doubt that will ever happen at easynews.

[Newsgroups] SABnzbd 0.4.0 Final Released!

In terms of download clients, this is the single best thing that ever happened to the Usenet community: http://www.sabnzbd.org/

That's the official page. And here's the brand-new wiki to go along with the latest release: http://sabnzbd.wikidot.com/start

I'd recommend you check the latter link because it contains everything the first one does--and then some. Very readable page with tons of useful info and everything you'd ever want to know about this project. How to's, full feature description, setup, etc. It's a full manual for the software.

One tip: turn on the PLUSH UI. It's amazing.

Best thing: it's completely free.

[BT] Pirate Bay promotes leaked copy of Dark Knight

said by TorrentFreak :The Dark Knight has been a huge success in theaters. In its first weekend, the film grossed a record breaking $158.4 million, and it’s currently on top of IMDB’s top 250 movies of all time with an average rating of 9.3.

The Pirate Bay now joins the hype, as the renamed their site into “The Pirate Bat“, and put up a new logo that links to a search for “The Dark Knight”.

[BT] new to the US from Canada (bittorrent question)

Hi i recently moved to Georgia and i'm on bell south for my internet, satellite and phone. I have never had problems using bittorrent or limewire - kaaza - you name it from my current pc and wireless router while in canada but now i can't get any of those programs to work. i have however been able to use iMesh which is fine if you simply want to listen to music - which is less than what i was hoping for lol.

my modem is a siemens speedstream 4200 (new since moving here) and my router is a dlink wbr-1310 (which i've always used and brought with me)

this is my actual provider:

Result for 75.89.2.117
--> /usr/local/bin/fwhois 75.89.2.117@whois.arin.net
[whois.arin.net]
Windstream Communications Inc WINDSTREAM (NET-75-88-0-0-1)
                                  75.88.0.0 - 75.91.255.255
Windstream - Commerce 75-89-0-0 (NET-75-89-0-0-1)
                                  75.89.0.0 - 75.89.15.255

# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2008-07-23 19:10
# Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.
--> /usr/local/bin/fwhois "!NET-75-89-0-0-1@whois.arin.net"
[whois.arin.net]

SO my question is is my ISP limiting my acount or should it work? I will change ISP's if i have to if anyone could suggest a better option - preferably something more inline of offering cable modem services. Thanks for any info you can give me.
