Pair bonding coming soon?

I saw an internal job posting at BTS asking technicians who are interested to acquire the skills for the pair bonding market. Anyone got info on the deployment of this market?

FYI, pair bonding uses two pairs of wire from the JWI to the modem to increase the capacity of the line on FTTN. It will extend the services 25, 50 and 75 Mbps and create the capacity of 100 Mbps on FTTN.

Fibe TV and Internet with my own router

I have a WRT54GL router running tomato firmware. I got Fibe TV and internet installed last weekend, the connection box is sagemcom 2864.

I want to use the router to manage the network instead of the sagemcom. I want the sagemcom to act only as a modem. I understand this is not entirely possible because of Fibe TV but I read there is a way to use the router for computers and sagemcom for the tv receiver box.

I want to set port forwarding, access restrictions, bandwidth restrictions, etc. using my router instead of the sagemcom device.

Is there a way to do this even with Fibe TV?

[RANT] Bell TV ads = stupidity !

So, there was the fake game show commercials for Bell Fibe where 2 persons were representing the "Cable" company.

Reality check, who on earth would represent a competitor in a biased set with huge characters "Bell" in the background and all questions are about that company? Plain stupid, so are your clients.

The new commercial, ok, MPEG-4 compression can fit more HD content on a similar-size hard disk than MPEG-2, but reality check, if any company want to go to marketing war and fit more HD content on their devices, they'll have to compress the hell out of their HD channels, rending "HIGH DEFINITION" so obsolete you'll get a better picture with an antenna.

At the end of the commercial, a bystander tells the Fibe installer "Hook me up!", and he replies "No problem". Shouldn't he reply instead "Call Emily" ?

The beavers commercials were silly, but at least didn't take their clients for stupid idiots.

As for Rogers ads, they hied the same two guys in a bunch of cellphone commercials : the clean-cut guy and the idiot. First ad was ok, the second ad you tell yourself they should recognize each other by now, and the recent one, where the idiot is surrounded by a bunch of ladies showing photos on his cellphone, daydreaming in front of an ad in the metro : NOBODY in real life does that !

[Internet] Bell FTTH (Internet/Phone only) - Skip Sagecom, ONT -

I'm having Bell Fibe 50/50 FTTH installed at the end of the month. I currently have an ASUS RT-N66U with custom firmware (Shibby/Tomato). I've read a lot here about putting the Sagecom into bridge mode and just using my N66U for the PPPoE connection.

Given that I'm not getting TV service, do I need the Sagecom at all? I'm trying to understand why I couldn't simply plug the ASUS directly into the ONT and do away with the Sagecom.

Appreciate any feedback!

Bell POTS business line - alternative provider?

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I'm wondering if there's another company in Canada that resales Bell telephone POTS lines for businesses.

Long story short, my mother is paying over $120/month (with taxes) for Bell a land line for her private practice in an office. No Internet or anything else, just a telephone land line with a handful of calling features she doesn't even use.

I've gone through absolute *hell* dealing with Bell (my own account and anything my family has used) and going about cancelling all their services.

I'd like to check for POTS service first. Unless there are companies that provide VoIP for businesses at a reasonable cost.

Can't open any ports with Fibe, even after reseting sagemcom

I made an online game for me and my friends last year, which doesn't work anymore since I upgraded from my old bell sympatico service to fibe.

I really need to be able to send UDP packets on port 8888. I used to do this all the time when I was still cheating my evaluation copy of Windows 7 Beta (used it for years)

Now, I'm using Windows 7 64 bits and Fibe and it seems impossible.

I've bought a 100$ D-Link router after reading about the solution posted here and a few other places, being to bypass the sagecomFast2864.

Followed a dozen how tos posted here, by the letter. Factory reset the sagecom countless times, unplugged it, held the reset button for a minute, etc so the username in it shows something like sc and some numbers now.

Disabled DCHP in the sagemcom, picked PPPoe within the new router...

Tried inputing all correct data into the port forwarding, DMZ, static IP, etc

I got a an IP from No-IP, it doesn't work. First I did this with the sagemcom, then with the D-Link...

Enabled hosting an FTP and HTTP site within the D-Link.

I followed countless tutorials on hosting my own web page and ftp site, none of them made it so I could access anything by typing my ip on any computer other than typing the 192.168.0. x on my own computer, ie worthless...

I set up a static IP in windows.

Created outbound / inbound rules for the ports I wanted to open.

I tried shutting down all firewalls.

I really need to open that dumb port so I can write to sockets. I thought it was a security issue, but I can't even host a website. Is there anything else I can do? Is there an ISP that will allow this? Is it my version of Windows 7? :(

I doubt I can pay for a 150$ "server" and a company will let me run my own python scripts on it.

Anybody is able to host a web page or ftp on Fibe and Win 7 64? Should I pay for a technician? How do I find one?

If you have read through all this, Thanks, :) I'm really annoyed here. :(

[Internet] Bell will run a fibre to your house for a 2 year cont

I am in Toronto btw.

I heard this from a relative that Bell will run a fibre optics to the house if you sign a 2 years contract with them. The person (non-technical) was told of this from a Bell store. Is this true or false?

Is this something for the Fibe TV, Fibe Internet, or you need to sign up for both? How much are per month for the 2 years are we talking about here. I thought neighbourhoods will get their turns whenever Bell comes around to it. I don't mind the FTTH with 150mbps both ways, but at what cost. Maybe I can get my father to pay for the Fibe TV part of it.....

Current I have the Fibe 15/10 that actually works like 15mbps down and 1.78 mbps up. Not much I know but it beats out the previous hi-speed plan that only had 6/0.7. The old arrangement just cannot handle the load when my parent's TVPad is streaming. It won't even register the load after the upgrade. The Bell tech told me I can never have FibeTV or higher packages unless they run fibre to the pole first. FibeTV may work in bad performance due to the low up speed.

[Internet] New Home-Owners ATTN: 12 Months Free FTTH Service

Hi guys,

I hope I'm not in any violation with this posting but I just got off the phone with bell and I heard that most of the people that bought a new house being built in the last 2 years might be eligible for Actual Fiber To The Home (FTTH) service. I repeat it's not FTTN but FTTH.

The new home owners are eligible to get up to 12 months of Free Fibe Internet, Fibe TV and Home Phone.

Here are the services you're getting:

1. Fibe Internet 50 Mbps Down/50 Mbps UP
2. Fibe TV Best Package with up to 300+ channels and More Movies
3. Any Home Phone Package

Yes all for Free.

However there are some conditions:

1. The You can not downgrade the Home Phone for at least 2 years so be careful which package you choose.
2. The internet you can downgrade or upgrade at any time.
3. You're in commitment with bell for at least 2 years.
4. You can downgrade your TV package at any time.

- Another thing is if you want Unlimited Bandwidth, you have to pay 10$ a month, but hey what's 10$ if you get the service for 12 months free.

- The Fibe TV comes with a Free HD PVR Receiver any extra receiver is 7$ a month (Up to maximum of 6 receivers).

- They can set you up with upto 3 phone outlets for free.

My opinion is this is an amazing offer, and I don't mind paying the regular price after the contract for both the Fibe Internet and Fibe TV.

Lets be real not many people get an opportunity to have true fiber to their house (FTTH), most current communities have FTTN. The advantage with FTTH is that you will get dedicated connection with amazing upload and download upto 175 MBps UP/DOWN and your connection speed is not lowered when you whatch Fibe TV at the same time as surfing the net (FTTN shares the Fibe TV/Internet connection, as you have copper running to your house).

BTW In case you're wandering I live in Milton Derry/James Snow PKW area and FTTH is available there.

What do you guys think about this offer?

need help with ss4200

When my 2Wire died last Jan.2012 I changed to ss4200 and connected Dlink 625 wireless route and had a care free wireless home network for all at home. All was good but this morning ss4200 did not connected to internet but I got all 3 green lights.
1.called Bell (India!) checked if they see my modem. Yes!
2.hooked another ss4200, no joy, no conection, got 3 green`s
3. connected New 2Wire, no joy, no DSL, got RED power light.
4 Finally,conected "old" ss5200/E242 (all black) and got connection with 3 green`s

I have 3 ss4200 and all failed and new send 2Wire failed to, to connect. Can`t figure this that this "old" ss5200 conected with no problem and holds speed.

Appreciate some help as I like my wireless network with ss4200 + DLink 625 as it worked great at home. Can`t understuned that my 2Wire failed and my friends.

[Homephone] Bell limiting 1.5mbps with other ISP

I was about to change for a new ISP today, but they informed me that my phone connection to BELL limits me to 1.5 mbps, as I was opting for their 6 mbps subscription. They told me to opt for their 2 mbps instead.
And this is true because 1.5 is exactly the speedtests results I am getting on my 10 mbps Acanac connection right now.

So what is the deal here? Is it because of my phone lines or is it bell itself that are being jerks? I want to get some insight from this board before having to deal with them on the phone. I am also thinking of switching to a cheaper phone services but I dont know if this will resolve the problem or complicate it more if it's a wiring issue.
