Slow speed lately?

Has anyone been experiencing very slow speeds the past few days?

I'm getting 0.8mb/s on speedtest and online gaming is unplayable due to speeds.

I haven't touched any settings, and I've tried resetting my router + modem to no avail. I've also called Teksavvy, they mentioned they received an email from bell saying they are having some re-routing issues in the GTA area.

Just wondering if I am alone here.

Just signed up for DSL. Hello fellow Teksavvy users!

Okay so,

I just got off the phone with a fairly nice sales rep at Teksavvy... I felt like I was being rushed, but she was good-humoured at the same time. I ordered Residential Premium.

My line is currently still provisioned to 3web, but the cancellation date is on the 30th of September. 'Not sure which exact day it will start working again, but hopefully it will be smooth. In any case, I'm excited and looking forward to having a connection that I can actually use during the evenings again.

My router can already get a Teksavvy IP address and their DNS servers, but the internet still only seems to work through my 3web account. This is normal until the cancellation/activation day I hope...

I'm hoping now that I have the full force of Teksavvy behind me, I can man-handle Bhell into fixing my line :P I know, I know what you're thinking, but just let me have my moment.

I'm going to try to get a NID installed outside, considering the box outside is only a splice box and it's very hard to test from there.

I get errors even when connected to the splice box for less than a minute, but I'm on a 4032/512 interleaved profile right now, so the line only goes down every 2-3 days now that the profile has been tinkered with. With a 5000/800 fastpath profile, the line goes down dozens of times a day, especially in the evenings and over night. It stays connected almost all day during the day, though.

Anyways, I just wanted to say Hello to everyone and offer a heads-up because I'll probably be asking for help and advice. I hope that's okay.

I've already received a tremendous amount of help from a certain someone on this forum. You know who you are and thank you!

See you all around.

Speed dropping from modem to router

I am getting a speed of roughly 2.4mbps when I connect my computer directly with the modem. However, with a wireless router, the B/W drops substantially and my page loads are extremely slow. I also recently upgraded to the latest ST 516 firmware but that didn't help. I am not sure what settings I can change at the router level to speed up the Internet connection. I have a netgear WGR614 54MBPS and the speed does not improve eventhough I am sitting next to it.

Can someone help.

new customer need help interpreting line stats

hi all, new tsi customer, so far alls been very good, including one call to tech support(fast, efficient, prob solved and didnt wait on hold!)
Was with old isp 7+yrs, orig on 5Mbps line(i think), line used to test at 4.4-4.6 Mbps down and about 600-700up. Over the years had 2-3 phone issues requiring service as well as 4-5 dsl issues. At least 1-2 times bell ticket issued by old isp for dsl probs. Although internet works, speeds over the last 2yrs never went back to same. Both neighbors either side get 4-5 Mbps service with private isps. Online Bell phone checker thing tells me only 2Mbs avail at my address, yet there used to be more.
Including line stast using dmt from demarc point at home, could someone decipher please? is there anymore in the line, or is this the best i can hope for? thanks in advance for any help...d

Redirected to a .ca site?

First let me say I'm NOT a fan of southpark, but on my dog forum someone posted a funny dog clip so I was going to take a look.
http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/155251/?tag=Cesar+Millan
It's the first time (that I've noticed anyway) that the site saw I was in Canada and redirected me to a .ca site.
I must say this doesn't sit well :(

Protential customer here, a few questions

We've been going over the Roger's 60GB limit each month, and with growing data demands (VOIP phones, bigger youtube streams and etc), it seems logical to take a look at TekSavvy. I've been using Squid caching to try to save a few bits. With a 3 people at home, I'm getting about ~10% bit hits. It's a respectable percentage for such a small population, but it only translate to 6GB per month.

- I'm using PFsense as my gateway, and a quick google shows that no one has been able to get MLPPP working on it, so MLPPP is not an option at the moment.

- Static IP, $4 per month, which is great! I saw a few posting about MLPPP static IP users have access to a rate limited (1mbps) newsgroup. Does this apply to non MLPPP static IP users too? I don't see any info about this on the website.

- If in the future if I could support MLPPP, does it mean I pay $4 for static IP + $4 MLPPP? $8 in total?

- Is TCP port 25 outbound blocked? If it is, is there a Teksavvy smpt relay that I can use? I run a private email server that sends me alerts and etc.

- Are any other ports blocked?

Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!

After a long hiatus, we're happy to announce the release of Tomato/MLPPP v1.25-mp3alpha6. This release brings us up to date with the latest build of Tomato, and makes some other minor fixes. The most important one is an update to the default LCP settings that should significantly improve stability due to incorrect settings used in alpha 4 and 5.

Download

Grab it from http://fixppp.org

Known issues

* UPnP does not work at all with 1:1 NAT. This will be fixed by the first beta of mp3.
* The PPP bundle will occasionaly stop accepting IP traffic when reconnecting a line to the bundle. We're planning to have a workaround for this at the very least.

Changelog

* Fixed a typo ("dissabled by user")
* Updated base Tomato to v1.25
* Fixed the default LCP settings to avoid excess disconnections
* Added a system to allow updating settings the first time a new version is booted
* Added an override to change users' LCP settings on first boot if they're still using the alpha 4 defaults.

Future Plans

Forgot to update this in the documentation, here's the correct list:

v1.25-mp3beta1:
* Add a watchdog for the dead-link issue to at least maintain connectivity
* Fix UPnP with 1:1 NAT

v1.21-mp4:
* Add UI support for three or more modems
* Make the behaviour when a dead link is detected configurable; either wait for the remote end to identify a dead link and degrade to one line, or immediately rebuild the bundle, changing the IP in the process.

v1.21-mp5:
* Try to do sanity checks on invalid external 1:1 NAT IPs

Telus supports CRTC's NN and UBB

CRTC net neutrality decisions

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) decisions released on October 21 establish guidelines for what constitutes reasonable network management and uphold the principle of usage-based billing for wholesale ADSL access service. TELUS considers these to be fair decisions that recognize the significant investments made by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like TELUS in Internet infrastructure while empowering consumers by way of new requirements for disclosing ISP network management practices.

In its decision on Internet traffic management practices (popularly known as throttling, traffic shaping, and/or net neutrality), the CRTC has permitted Bell, Rogers, Shaw and other ISPs to continue traffic shaping peer-to-peer file sharing traffic for now; however, the CRTC will evaluate each carrier's measures in future proceedings against the framework that it has established. The issue of whether throttling is permitted has therefore not been definitively resolved yet but the commission recognized that, in some circumstances, it may be the only viable response to traffic congestion.

The CRTC decisions do not have any immediate impact on TELUS because we have not traffic shaped, however we are pleased to see the CRTC preserve ISPs flexibility to adopt usage-based pricing at wholesale and retail. The CRTC's recognition that congestion is a real problem and needs to be managed is positive. The decision strikes a good balance between the realities ISPs are facing and fairness to customers. The chairman of the CRTC has correctly proclaimed that "Canada is the first country to develop and implement a comprehensive approach to Internet traffic management practices."

Why am I not surprised. :p Oh yeah and Telus is still making revenue but who cares.

Internap returns

It looks like the Internap transit has returned for the time being as TSI staff indicated a few weeks ago would be happening http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23159040-Transit-changes.

This should make those happy that have been complaining about routing to RISQ since the removal of Cogent. Internap provides a connection to Cogent in Toronto so routing to RISQ is back to the way it was before. Though TSI has indicated Internap will be gone for good when the current contract ends.
