High pings at night

I started playing some online games and have found that my pings go up really high during the evenings. i decided to start monitoring my line. I was surprised with the results as depicted below. It seems that everyday between 6 and midnight my pings go way up. During this time I have also noticed severe speed degradation as see in the snaps bellow. I have no torrent activity or peer to peer apps open, so I do not believe this is Bell throttling. Any ideas???

Blade servers

All right! Uber Geek Alert! In other words, I don't know where else to ask this question. :)

As some of you know, I'm working on launching a cable television channel later this year. The automated broadcast system for this channel will be entirely computer based, and the distribution will be for the most part IP based. The performance requirements for the system will not be too high, but I'll still need quite a bit of equipment, and at least 10 terabytes of hard drive space for the video files.

To make life easier, I'm considering getting a blade server package which will be installed at a datacenter. I figured I can squeeze everything I'll need for the next two years in a single IBM Bladecenter S chassis. Throw in a keyboard/monitor drawer, and I can fit everything in a 1/4 rack with 2U to spare.

The question is: are IBM Bladecenters reliable and cost effective these days? I'm having a lot of trouble finding ANY reviews on the product, including credible complaints!

I'm also checking out the offerings by HP and Dell, but haven't figured out if everything I'll need for the next two years will fit in that same 1/4 rack. If I have to upgrade to a 1/2 rack and extra power, the monthly co-location costs will double, possibly negating any potential cost savings achieved by going with a cheaper equipment provider (the equipment will be leased, not purchased).

So any opinions out there? Has anyone here worked with IBM Bladecenters or know someone who has worked with them? Was the experience on the whole positive or negative? And how was the cost, set-up and long term maintenance? Good or bad?

Thanks!

Slow speeds in the evenings

Hey gang,

I'm trying to figure out what's going on. When I check our gear, I don't see any wide spread problems. Yet many are having problems.

Can everybody post some speed test results so we can try to figure this thing out please?

single-link MLPPP from 1 PC behind non-MLPPP router?

I think this is possible but even after reading as many MLPPP-related posts on this forum as I sanely could, I'm not fully sure. So before I go and add the MLPPP service to my TekSavvy connection I wanted to see if someone can verify what I plan to do.

I don't want to change my existing setup that is:

[DSL modem] - [router running m0n0wall] - [a bunch of PCs]

From the [a bunch of PCs] I want to initiate a MLPPP connection from a single PC on-demand that is behind the existing router and have all the other machines continue to operate like before (not using MLPPP).

The single PC that I want to sometimes connect via MLPPP (when needing to use bittorrent and bypass throttling) is running Linux.

And if this is possible, do I need two different logins from TekSavvy? Or once I get a new MLPPP login, I use it for both on my router and also in my Linux PC's MLPPP connection?

Thanks!

Slow speed lately?

Has anyone been experiencing very slow speeds the past few days?

I'm getting 0.8mb/s on speedtest and online gaming is unplayable due to speeds.

I haven't touched any settings, and I've tried resetting my router + modem to no avail. I've also called Teksavvy, they mentioned they received an email from bell saying they are having some re-routing issues in the GTA area.

Just wondering if I am alone here.

No DSL facilities availble in my area (after placing order)

I have just discovered that there are no "dsl facilities" available in my area when all I wanted to do was switch over from Bell to teksavvy but I just learned that Bell is somehow refusing to let teksavvy take over.....so that's why I can't get DSL service. What should I do now? I had already canceled my DSL service with Bell before placing my order with teksavvy as requested by teksavvy...so basically they sort of screwed me over. They didn't tell me of this at the beginning when I was told to cancel my service with Bell. What can I do now?

3 wire confusion

from the demark I have 2 strands of thick black wire that goes around 2 screws on the wall jack. It also has green and red (smaller diameter) that end at 2 other screws (the jack).
the jack is all one piece so I can't tell which connectors they go to. It is gang wired to another jack as well. could someone please tell me how to wire this to a modern jack? I also running a cat5e for the telephone (dedicated just for dsl)
I know that my old wires are problematic as if I play with the connections through out the house the internet speed usually doubles. (I have a filter on each tele)
also, how do you terminate an rj11 plug onto a cat5e cable?

thanks

what cellphone/company to get?

I know this is probably the wrong section, but I figured you guys in the teksavvy forum were the most knowledgeable on choosing a cell phone company that was the best value/best company.

I thought teksavvy sold cellphones and was pretty sad to hear they didn't.

I'm basically looking for a my 5 type plan, with a few minutes for everyday calling, say about 400, don't need any fancy texting plan or something.

As for the phone, I was either going to get one of the android phones or a basic one, my wallet says basic, the inner geek says android.

do i have to go with rogers or bell, or do i have other alternatives, and what kinda price am i looking at per month?

AT WITS END: Constant disconnects using MLPPP

OK,

I'm almost done. When i enable MLPPP in my Asus WL-520GU router i get constant disconnects as many as 10 an hour, far more prominently during primetime

What happens is i lose internet, the adsl light on my modem goes out, then 2-5 minutes later it comes back on again.

When i turn off MLPPP, no problems.

I'm using tomato Firmware 1.25 alpha 6, i've used 1.19, and many others to try and resolve the problem.

Someone please help me for the love of god!
