What a load of donkey doo-doo.

Warning: Do NOT try to upgrade your TELUS Internet!

You hear about it. You read about it. You figure it's just an isolated case, and something like that would never happen to you.....

Currently on Lite.

Called in on Nov 30 to switch my separate phone and Internet accounts to a "bundle", and at the same time upgrade from Lite to 6.0 Highspeed.

CSR said she'd have the accounts bundled on the 2nd, and the Internet upgraded on the 4th, once the "bundle" was confirmed.

She left a message the next day, saying the upgrade was switched to the 8th, to allow time for the new Siemens modem to arrive.

Found the modem under the front mat around 3:30 on the 7th. Took it inside, hooked it up, and was merrily surfing the net (still at Lite speed) for about 1//2 an hour. Decided to log into the interface and disable the wireless, and did so successfully.

Tried to go surfing again, and found I no longer had a connection, just a DLS light going blink-blink every now and then.

Re-enabled the wireless, reset to "factory defaults", tried different cables, even hooked up the old 300g that I'd been using for the last 3 years with zero problems. No sync, no how, no way.

Called in, the CSR said that because of the upgrade from Lite, I had to be switched to a different port, and that would take longer than a "normal" speed upgrade, and that's why I had been disconnected early (just a coincidence that it happened while I was turning off the wireless), but confirmed that my connection would be back sometime on the 8th.... HA!!!

Got home at 9PM on the 8th (today). Turned on the modem. Blink-blink...... blink-blink. Called the Tech guys yet again, and let them do their usual "turn it off and on", "switch the phone wire end-to-end", "try a different outlet" stuff. Gee, what a surprise, no help... blink-blink.

But he was kind enough to set up a house-call appointment with a tech... next freaking Sunday!!! Wanna bet he comes in, hooks up his laptop, and says "Yep, you got no signal. I'll have to check with the rack guys... shouldn't take more than a couple more weeks."?

My guess is the trained monkeys highly-skilled professionals at the CO either didn't bother to plug in whatever they were supposed to, or they hooked up to the wrong phone line. Is there any way to tell, besides waiting a week for Mr. Laptop to show up?

Dial-up sucks. I should have stayed with Lite, or maybe taken the landlord's offer to share his Shaw connection.

Okay, I'm finished. I think I'll go punch a wall.

[BC] Upgrade from 3.0Mbps to 6.0Mbps?

Hello. I recently had my High Speed Internet port moved from a CO that is located 3/4 blocks away to a CO that is about 50 meters away (or so the technician told me) because the constant disconnects. I checked the modem stats and I believe the port is now capable to reaching the maximum speed that is possible with the High Speed Internet or even the Turbo Internet. So I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade my current 3.0Mbps to 6.0Mbps without moving to a new port?

Below are the modem stats before and after the port was moved:
[att=1] [att=2]

I tried calling Telus but the support told me that it is not possible to give me the 6.0Mbps one because they would have to move the port again and all the ports are currently taken. The support also mentioned that Telus TV is now available in my area and I will need at least the current 3.0Mbps to get Telus TV. If that is true, then I will not be able get either since no higher speed port is available?

Managed hosting call centre

I know that this forum is mostly for residential and whatnot....

Since when did the managed service call centre get redirected to India? We pay almost $400 a month for our managed ADSL and I had to call in only to get someone that didn't know what I needed when I needed a tech to turn on port 2 of our Cisco switch. They also didn't know anything about reverse DNS records.

You'd think with a service level like we have, we could talk to someone that can speak clearly and at least have some basic understanding of computer networks.

Download speed great, upload not?

I still have shaw, but after my trouble with my internet between 6-11 (download speeds) i decided to compare and give turbo a try. So far my download speeds are great and stable unlike shaw, (13-14 down) but my upload speeds are all over the map, on some speed tests i get .87 at best, and many i get .3-.5mbps, despite my shaw download being unstable, my upload was consistent always over .9.

I know there are people on the forum who have been helpful fixing speeds, so I just thought i would ask on here before i make any decisions to go with shaw or telus if my upload can be fixed at all?

Question for Telus Tech

Hello , Would it be possible for me to get the internet speed shared with the Telus T.V , like one of the members has? So when all Telus T.V'S are shut i get 12-13 MB ( I have HD locals ) When one is running it slows down a bit , etc? So would it be possible to have that done , without messing my HD etc up? So i could enjoy full speeds when t.v are shut and it slows down when they are on. Also would it cost me anything?

 quote:If I am watching.
1 HD + 1 SD I get 4 Mb/s on my internet.
1 HD + 0 SD I get 4-5 Mb/s
2 SD streams on different channels 7 Mb/s
1 SD Box or 2 SD on the same channel i get 9.5-10 Mb/s
0 Boxes turned on I get 12 Mb/s

Thank you very much !

[AB] Dark DSL

I've all my services bundled with Telus : Phone + High Speed + TTV SD. When testing my connection with SpeedTest.net I got 2.4 MBs downlink and around 0.7 uplink. I had some problems with TTV and a Telus rep came last week and connected a new D-Link DVA modem. He'll be back this weekend to "Upgrade" my system with new TTV IP boxes. I would like to have a faster High speed connection, can I ask him for a "Dark DSL" ? Is this something that any Telus Rep can normally setup ? What does it take to install "Dark DSL"

Cheers !

TELUS Call Forwarding Line Hunt

Hello there,

I posted something like this a while back, but I'm reposting it to hopefully get some suggestions from CSR's as to what I should do.

Is there any services that with the right modifications (for a residential line) that could forward multiple calls at a time right away? I know call forwarding busy/no answer will forward at least two calls (as far as I have been able to test) - but the downside is it requires a minimum of two rings, or a busy line before doing this (unless thats changeable?). Call forward variable on the other hand will only forward one call at a time.

[ALL] Switching to Telus???

Hi all,

I have been with Shaw for 5+ years on TV, Internet and (last 2.5 years) phone.
For some reason Shaw is constantly increasing their service price (e.g Basic cable from $20.99 to aprox. $33).
Latest increase was total $4 however there was no new channels or speed or phone features added.
I'm tired paying Schwas’ almost $100 (with taxes) for Basic Cable, High-speed Internet and Light Phone services.

Due to the constant price increase in these hard economic times, I'm looking to switch to TELUS.
I have explained my concerns to Shaw customer relations, however it seems that they don’t care about that, nor they have reasonable explanation for constant price increases.

The other day I called TELUS customer service, and they offered me a reasonable price for all tree services switching from Shaw. The only thing I don't like that much is that the max internet speed is 3.0Mbps.
I have been told by customer service that there is no possibility to increase the speed due to the Internet TV.

How do I go about the speed increase from 3 to 6 Mbps....?

The standard phone with called ID, TV Whatch a lot package, and 3.0Mbps internet service. all of this for $75 per month in the first year. It is to mention that only TV is on 1 year contract, the rest of services are not on the contract.

Your reasonable advices would be welcomed. I'm willing to pay up to $10 more for the faster internet line.

Thank you very much.
