LOWE'S Shopping Lot Scam

Over the last month, during the problems with IKE, I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. It might have spread to your town. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to McDonald's. You agree and they get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen Aug Sept 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, & 24th, 29th. Also Sept Oct1st, 2nd, 4th, and three times last Saturday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So, tell your friends to be careful.

P.S. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale $2.99 each

Jerry

Debris pickup "rules" for City of Houston

Most of us on my street did not know that we had to separate tree limbs, black plastic bags, and lumber. Trucks came by and picked up tree limbs only on my street. I called "311" and found out "the rules." Any tree limb leaves and small branches left over should be picked up and bagged. The lumber and black plastic bags will be picked up "later" and have to put in their own "piles."

Those of you in other municipality's will have different "rules."

After Ike Stress

Most of us are more than a little stressed. I try very hard not to take it out on my friends, family, and folks working in shops and stores.

Yesterday, I was behind an a**hole in the supermarket. If he keeps up this behavior, he will fall over dead from a heart attack. He was ranting and raving about the fact that it took quite a while for the person in front of him to checkout and leave. He yelled at the clerk and then asked for the manager. By the time he was over his tirade, he had wasted more than enough time for the clerk to scan, ring up, and for him to pay. In other words, if he had kept his mouth shut, he would have been out the store quickly, instead of the 15 minutes he wasted with his rant.

It's stressful driving around my area -- I'm sure most of you have the same problem -- as not all traffic lights are working. I am also tired of looking at the piles of tree limbs, fence sections, etc. in my neighborhood and all over the Clear Lake area.

However, most of us are lucky. We did survive (or are still surviving) without power. Most of us had minor damage -- such as tree limbs and falling down fences.

I had to leave my inside cats here when I left with a neighbor. I also have four outside cats that are obviously tough and all showed up when I got home -- late afternoon -- on Saturday, 13 Sept.

Little blessings like outside cats surviving, the birds are still showing up at the bird feeders, the hummingbirds are still sipping nectar from plants and bushes that I put in the ground just for them, and the squirrels are still hanging around, make me smile.

During our long lack of electricity in my area, I got to know some of neighbors that came home from work and went into their houses. For example, I found out that the "red-haired guy" has a name -- it's Tim and he is a nice man.

Off the subject, but I learned that with DSL internet service I was able to plug the modem, router, and laptop into a battery backup to get on-line once per day. I was running out of battery backup units when my power finally came back on. I knew that I didn't want any telephone service other than POTS, because of lack of service during storms (I didn't even think about hurricanes). I was finally able to get in touch with a friend that lives in the Clear Lake area -- he had switched to cable phone service and plans to get a POTS line back again soon.

Y'all hang in there and smile at strangers and be nice to the folks working in your local stores, as they may have worse post-Ike problems than you do. :)
