Time Warner is ripping me off!!

I wasn't sure where to post this so I chose the Time Warner forum so that people could be informed about Time Warner billing practices, and to see if anyone had any suggestions.

I have had Time Warner in Austin, TX for over 5 years without any problems at all. In August of 2008 we moved into a new apartment and did a transfer of service. We just took our 3 boxes and cable modem to the new place and had a technician come out to make sure all the boxes were up and running.

After getting the first bill, we noticed that Time Warner was now charging us for 4 cable boxes and 1 cable modem. We called and were told they would have to check their inventory to see if they had the supposed fourth box in their inventory and that it was just an error. I was told this would take a couple days.

After a week with no calls, we called back and talked to another customer service rep. We were told the exact same thing, they would have to check their inventory, it appears they never did it the first time. This back and forth has literally been going on for more than a year. Even when the call gets escalated to a supervisor we are told the exact same thing, but nothing ever happens.

In October we decided to drop Time Warner and go with AT&T U-Verse. After returning the boxes and modems we were told that we still had 1 cable box to return. We then went through the same process several times where we call and they "check their inventory" but they never do and never call back. Plus when we do call back after the few days they say it will take, the supervisors tell us to quit calling so frequently, even though we only call after they said they would call us back and never did.

To top it all off, we just got a notice in the mail saying that we have 7 days to pay them the $350 for the phantom box or else it is going to be sent off to collections and that it would impact my credit.

They have already gotten $112 out of me for the monthly $8 charge for the phantom cable box, now they want $350...that makes it $462 for absolutely nothing.

Keep this in mind if you are thinking of Time Warner as a cable provider in central Texas.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions...I would love to hear them.

I can't decide if i want to keep TWC or stay with DirecTV.

I have both DirecTV and TWC. I am in NYC. flushing 11355 to be more exact. I am deciding between the two, and can not figure out if TWC is better or cost effective. I have been with directv ever since USSB and directv were two companies. the last time i had cable was when the old Pioneer boxes were used, and there were still PPV channels on channels 58, 59, 60, and special events on 61 along with porn on 62, and 63.... the good old days.. Anyways, I never had problems with directv, so the rain fade issue is crap. never had it. I am looking for picture quality, cost, and the amount of HD. more importantly is the HD and the picture quality. any suggestions?

[TWC] HD series stopped working

A few weeks ago we noticed that programs that should be recorded in HD as part of a series were no longer being recorded. Looking at the list of "future recordings" shows that they were scheduled, but then they wouldn't get recorded.

A good deal of detective work reveals that the HD channels do not show up when "searching" for programs. For instance, channels 374 and 376 will be listed as alternate times for a show, but the HD channel, 375, is not listed.

After a series of e-mail exchanges with TWC they tell me that they are having a problem with their Guide provider and do not know when it will be resolved.

DCT6400 HD-DVR and a 1/2" green line on the right...

I have a Motorola DCT6400 HD DVR in the living room. It is connected to a SHARP 52" 1080p monitor via a HDMI cable. I have no problems watching 1080i or 1080p (Blu Ray) content from my BD player or from another DVD player.

Using the DCT6400, on the right side of the screen, I see a 1/2" wide green line and on the left side, it seems as if the image is overlapped by the same amount. Now this only occurs when I watch 1080i via this converter.

To make sure that it was not my TV, I connected my DCH6200 from the bedroom via the same HDMI cable and the green line is not present.

Question 1: It seems as if the DVR's 1080i image is shifted to the left. Is there a service setting which can correct this?

Question 2: As I can confirm that the problem occurs with the DCT6400, should I exchange it @ my local Time Warner center?

[TWC] Terrible Pixelation on HD Channels in Staten Island NY

I'm about ready to give up on TWC here on Staten Island. My HD channels for the last few weeks look horrendous. The majority of them have terrible pixelation or are breaking up completely. Some look fine though. It took a week for a tech to come to my house yesterday. He replaced some wires, and put on an attenuator. It made little difference. I already have FiOS Internet and phone and pretty much only keep TWC for MSG HD. Unless someone has a solution to what's going on here, I'm going to have to turn on my FiOS TV. I tried to watch the Knicks in HD tonight, but gave up and actually watched the SD channel. Am I only the only here with this problem?

[TWC] 8300 DVR HD external drive turned off?

I tried to add an external hard drive (Western Digital 1 TB) to the 8300 HD DVR. The DVR will not allow me to add the external hard drive. I called TWC and told me to call Scientific Atlanta. Scientific Atlanta told me to call back TWC since they indicated that TWC has turned off the esata port so an external hard drive can't be added.

The instructions on the TWC site indicates it can be added. How does one correct this situation?
