NTP Service - UDP Port 123

The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize your computers time with another, more accurate clock. In Microsoft Windows systems, the service that performs this function is 'Windows Time'.

Re: NTP Service - UDP Port 123

UDP Port 123 is open on Macintosh computers with Network Time Synchronization enabled. Disabling this service in Mac OS X is possible by accessing to System Preferences: Date & Time: Network Time.

XP

quite simple, since you have xp that has a little firewall. use it of install ie norton to close your security holes.

alternatively . . .

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and stop Windows Time. Then turn it to manual, or disable it. Every time your system clock gets synchronised with a time internet server, port 123 will open up. Upon reboot it should be closed again.

Of course, if Windows Time service is disabled it will not open up and you won't be able to synchronise your system clock.

Running "netstat -an" on a command prompt will show you whether port 123 is open or closed.
