Picture Quality Adjustable???

Got my Uverse service installed this morning and I'm really surprised how poor the picture quality comes out. I've read various posts in this channel on the subject but thought it was just people being overly critical.

The picture, even on HD channels looks horribly over compressed. I have seen DVD movies compressed to 1 CD that are comparable in quality to the SD channels. The picture is dark and there is no definition in any of the blacks.

The service has all the bells and whistles, VOD, PVR that anyone could hope for but I don't think I can live with it. Comparing this to the Dish Network service I've had for the last few years, is like comparing my Toshiba DLP TV to my old Sanyo picture tube.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to adjust the equipment or service I'd love to hear it. There doesn't appear to be any video settings that you can tweak in the menu. It seemed like a great deal with the bundled internet package given that I currently have to buy 2 service but as it is, I'm willing to pay the extra cost.

Thanks

Just got U-Verse

I am happy to announce that I just got U-verse. Someone was coming around my street today and asked us if we wanted to sign up. I signed up for the U100 package+internet express. At first she was going to give me 1 month free of TV and $100 cash back, but after calling in she was told she could not give us that offer. :( But, it will be a lot more clearer than comcast. They are installing it on August 9th. Which is a long time from now. What should I expect from install?

Linksys router & U-verse

I'm going to order U-verse & have a linksys router doing ppoe with an a netopia bellsouth modem in bridged mode
I am forwarding a few ports on the linksys to specific ip address assigned to each computer
the linksys is connected to a switch which then goes out to my computers and dvr camera unit
ports forwarded are for
ftp
vnc
dvr cameras
can I keep the router and connect it to the two-wire gateway
& not have to forward ports in the 2-wire gateway which sounds easier or should I
get rid of the Linksys and forward ports in the 2-wire instead.
If I keep the linksys is it ok that it has ip 192.168.1.1
is the 2-wire 192.168.1.254?
thanks

U-verse install

Between the outages, the channels we are supposed to get and don't and the cost; we have finally given up on COMCRAP and have spent considerable time investigating alternatives. AT&T U-verse or DirecTV.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to order U-Verse, since it's now available in my area (Blue Springs, MO).

I know about service I get with DirecTV since I had it before and was very pleased. But because startup costs involved with DirecTV, I have decided to give U-verse a shot first. What do I have to lose, right? It can't be worse than what I get with COMCRAP.

What I'd like to know, from someone who has direct experience, or maybe one of the techs in the group, from the time I place my order online, how long am I likely to wait for my install date?

TIA
KK

manually configuring DNS on u-verse RG

i posted at the end of the following link in at&t southwest

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20834819-Change-your-DNS-away-from-ATT-NOW

i am hoping a u-verse expert might know:

is it possible to configure the u-verse residential gateway's DNS settings manually to OpenDNS? i followed the instructions but did not see where this could be changed to "manual" under Broadband Link and Advanced.

any thoughts appreciated. thx

U-Verse wiring question - help please

I am re-wiring the coax in my crawl space for Dish (it's a jungle down there.

Will AT&T use the same coax that feeds my two TV's. That is, If I pull the new coax near the location where the access point will be outside, can AT&T just cut that coax, put on a new connector and use that existing run in my crawl space and connect U-Verse receiver to the same coax(I hope this saves me a new adventure under the house)?

If so or possibly, is there a difference in the coax that I should pull ?

Thanks for help

VOD dwindling, TMC - Now you see it, Now you don't

The "Pay Me More" Video Store now up to 901 movies.

The "Relatively Free" Showtime Movies down to 3. Series do not have the latest shows, Weeds etc...

TMC only has 3, check that, 2 items total, when it is not vanishing altogether.

The mute third level support tells second level support to tell me to jump through all the hoops of power cycling [unplugging/plugging] all the boxes; hold [ok][down arrow] while disconnecting/reconnecting the power cord; etc....

None of this improved the situation one Iota. TMC magically reappeared sometime during the middle of the night. But yet they want me to erase the DVR to fix the situation.

This exact situation seems to have happened in Michigan, but no resolution was mentioned.
