Finally FIOS starts to compete on price for Internet only!

15/5 for a year (no contract) for $39.99 + plus taxes/fees

Are there any taxes/fees for just internet?

It used to be $65-70 for this service a couple months ago.

I currently have 50/8 OOL promo for $44.90 (no taxes or fees) and when it ends I will now have a leverage to keep price down.

Horrible youtube speeds

I'm getting horrible youtube speeds here in the washington dc area (Maryland), i've ran the speed optimizer from fios, but I think it even made things worse.

Some videos barely pass the 60KB/s, some manage to get as max around 300KB/s

I'm on the 50/25 quantum plan and it's really sad that I get those crap speeds.

I'm not even able to watch 480p videos!

Installation Nightmare

We have been anxiously awaiting FIOS in our area and placed our order a few weeks ago. Last week a Verizon sub-contractor came out to run the cable from the Verizon box in our front yard to our house. Apparently they decided to install it a different way to avoid having to run the cable under our driveway. They ran the cable from a box that was further away and dug in an area that Miss Utility did not mark. In the process they cut our Comcast cable and nicked one of the main electrical feeds that comes into our house. So we have had no TV, internet and spotty power since last Thursday. We called Verizon and they told us to call Comcast. Comcast was a no show. I assume they are not coming because we are switching to FIOS. Meanwhile, the electric company came out and said that they will have to bring out their own ground crew to dig up from our meter until they find the damaged area. We are afraid to leave the house unattended because we heard buzzing sounds from the meter when we turned our main breaker off. So, with having to take off work and all the inconvenience, the customer service rep my wife spoke to said that we should expect a $45 credit to our account! Seriously? I'm not one to complain but Verizon will have to do something about this to make this right and these contractors should be supervised by someone that knows what they are doing. Someone could have been killed in my front yard and now this mess is costing me much more than $45 and our yard and my neighbors yard are about to be torn up by a backhoe... Would like others opinions about what they did or would do in a similar situation.

[Northeast] current deals / TV - internet

I have been putting this off and been getting by on two different ISP's that are not the most popular options nuff on that. Situation moving forward 18 year old extended family member moving into household. This will push heavy users up to 3 with two or three netflix streams running. I may have come to the cross roads and have to look at FiOS for internet bandwidth needs. I figure i would need 50 / 25 internet at least and i want an N router . I really don't need TV but they are going to force TV down my throat anyways. I will just put the TV on one set in the computer room. I will just take the cheapest TV STB and i don't care if its just SD i don't need the TV service. What deals are running now for internet and with the TV how much extra gets tacked on for the cheapest STB rental (even if its a DTA thats fine i don't care about program guides or menus as i won't be using the TV at all). I absolutely do not want an obsolete glorified land line the main purpose of this is internet needs. thanks for any inputs inn advance.

[Northeast] Verizon FiOS Questions

I have a few questions I hope someone can assist me with. Your guidance and input would be really appreciated. I am located in Nassau County, NY.

I’m strongly considering going from Cablevision to Verizon FiOS, but just have a few questions.

1. With all three services, how does Cablevision and FiOS compare?

2. If I have one desktop computer with a wired network card and one desktop computer in the same home with a wired and wireless network card, how would I go about connecting both computers up to FiOS? Would I need to install anything on either computers, would the speed of the internet be affected, etc?

3. Does Verizon have to install anything on the inside of my co-op, or can all of the equipment, with the exception of the router, be installed outside? (I live in a co-op with some strict rules).

You detailed answers would be very helpful and appreciated. Thank you so much!!

has everybody been bought off?

I was already 99% sure that both the politicians and the agencies that are supposed to insure service quality to the American consumer (ex PSC) have been bought off by the corporations, but when we have Verizon pulling this kind of thing,

http://stopthecap.com/tag/verizon-communications/

and the UNION doesn't even feel the need to mention it to the workers or the public, then you've got to assume that the union maybe has been bought off also. I don't see a thing about this on CWA 1101, 1104, 1108, 1109 website, etc.... Verizon is very quietly doing away with the regulations that protect this country's communication network and you can't even find a news story about it and I don't see the union trying to inform the public or even the workers about it. It's a disgrace.

Horrible Google Play Store speeds

Just like YouTube, I'm noticing that any Google Play Store interaction is very slow on my HTC One or Nexus 7. At first, I thought it was the Nexus 7 because it was the only Android device I had at the time. When I switched from iPhone to HTC, I noticed the same thing on the HTC. But, I have the luxury of turning off WiFi and testing through AT&T LTE.

On the HTC, with WiFi turned on, I run Speedtest and get all kinds of awesome speed results beyond 25Mbps. Web surfing is fast and email is quick. The minute I try to download or updated and app, I'm down in the tens of kbps. When I turn off WiFi and go through my AT&T LTE service, downloads are instantaneous.

I noticed that my YouTube speeds have improved, but I don't know if this Google Play issue is the same kind FiOS was having with Youtube.

Lynx Research?

I received an email from Lynx Research:

Dear Verizon Customer,

Today, on behalf of Verizon, Lynx Research Consulting invites you to participate in a short online survey to help Verizon select the added benefits to offer to its current FiOS customers.

We are interviewing current FiOS customers. If you are not the person who is responsible for your FiOS services, please forward this invitation to the person who is responsible for your household’s FiOS services.

Are these people on the up and up and is it safe to use the opt out link? I've never heard of this company and I've been with VZ for a couple of years now.

It's 2013, what is the status of IPv6 support on FIOS?

Does anyone know? I was doing some reading about Comcast's roll-out of IPv6 support in their forum, and was fairly impressed. I love to try out new technology, but I like FIOS better than Comcast, so I'm torn here. Do I order a Comcast connection, just to play with IPv6, or wait for Verizon's roll-out?

According to Verizon's site, the router I have (ActionTec Rev. F) IS IPv6 capable, but I am unsure if that support requires a firmware update from Verizon or not.

[Northeast] Actiontec MI424WR Rev I GigE to Asus RT-N56U slownes

I've been searching for some help on this issue for the last several days after having 75/25 Fios installed. Essentially, I have my network setup as Option 3 - Secondary Lan-to-Lan" from the Verizon Online Fios FAQ. I have no issues with actual connectivity with the RT-N56U, but for some reason the download/upload speeds are roughly half of what they are on the wireless from the Actiontec. I can get ~35/15 on the Asus and ~70/25 regularly on both. I know the Asus is fast enough to support more speed and I can confirm that the Actiontec is getting a gigabit port connection as both port lights are lit up on the Actiontec port.

I've checked every setting I can think of on both routers, run inSSIDer to analyze the network and set the channels, and even swapped the Cat5 to ensure it wasn't a faulty wire connection, but I just can't get the speed on the Asus up to par.

I'm running both routers in 2.4 Ghz mode and the Asus has a signal average ~30 dBm vs the Actiontec which has ~42.

Not even sure if I need the Asus any longer as from what I understand Rev I eliminates most of the limitations that prior Actiontecs had.
Any thoughts?

[Northeast] Possible Coaix splitter problem

Currently have PDI 3WMS-5 splitter from Verizon, I think it is going bad, this is a 3 way splitter, balanced, with -6db at each leg and rated 5-1000mhz.
I called Verizon and asked for a new splitter, no problem, they are sending me one, customer service could not tell me what the new splitter specs would be, only that it would have to be a 4 way instead of a 3 way, I have termination end caps for the empty leg.
Anybody have any idea what they will be sending and if it specs out differently, what to hook up to what leg?
I have 1 HD tv, 1 SD tv and the Actiontec router connected, the 2 tv's have about 15 ft. of coaix attached and the router has about 50 ft. of coaix attached.
I can be more specific about the new splitter specs when I get it if that is going to help.

Thanks

Upload Speed Problem with Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I

This question was posted in an area where the community might not see it as well as here.

quote:Hi, I am more than perplexed with this issue and searched the internet and tried many things. In summary my upload speeds both via wired and wireless connectivity overtime bog down to almost zero. My emails with attachments don't go out and speedtest.net gives a value of 0. Oddly my download speeds are consistently 25 mbps. I have the latest firmware 40.20.1 and Generation 3 of the MI424WR router with Hardware version I.

I have to reboot the router to get it have normal upload speeds. I don't have any parental controls on. tonight I turned off logging as I read somewhere that may be a culprit.

I had a fios tech come out here and he noticed that I incorrectly connected my 24 port gigabit switch (dell model 2624) to the fios router to the switch. In an earlier troubleshooting event I connected a cat 6 cable from the Actiontec "WAN port" to the dell switch in addition to the connection from one of the 5 Actiontec Gigabit Ethernet ports to the Dell. We removed the WAN connection (the WAN is really a COAX cable in my case to the ONT) and we thought that solved the problem.

But overtime my upload speeds go to a very very low value, almost zero.

There is no way to automatically reboot the actiontec router at a scheduled interval, if there were I would do that.

I tested with and without the Dell Switch connected to my network and same results.

I do have about 20 devices on my network and about 10 or so port forwarding rules.

Does anyone know of any issue with the actiontec routers and them having to be rebooted regularly? My old actiontec router had to be rebooted every month or so. But this issue w/ the new model requires me to reboot every other day or so. Any tips or other things to try would be appreciated. Thanks James

What's your take on the best way to increase wireless speeds

So I did a little bit of searching on this topic earlier, and it seems that someone ran into the same issue as before. What's happening is that when I am on my computer that has the hardwired connection, the internet speeds are great. They are what they're supposed to be, what we're paying for (see pic #1)

But when I hop over to my computer that uses a wireless adapter, download speeds dramatically decrease (see pic #2)

As you can imagine this gets pretty frustrating at times when pages take forever to load and online videos freeze up every 10 seconds. What do you think i can do here to resolve (or ease) this issue? If it matters, i'm using the regular old verizon router that they supplied me with.
