[vps] VPS or Cloud Server with Storage

I'm on disability, I am currently paying $25 / month for a 100gb shared server and was wanting my own server. Every cloud server I have seen out there is "fixed" on the HDD space available and if you want anything custom the price flies through the roof.

Anyone have any suggestions even a cheap dedicated would be good, I don't necessarily need anything "major" 1024mb RAM & 250-500gb HDD space. Course right now isn't a good time since HDD's are expensive from that flooding.

Surpass Web hosting RAID

Anyone else have this problem? they tel me there is nothing they can do! what a joke this is! I have lost 4 clients over this crap! IM so done with surpass hosting!! No back up was made at all for this dedicated server, I have had it! PERIOD!
__________________________________________________________

Surpass hosting:

Hello,

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. At this time the server is still undergoing the RAID rebuild and I understand the frustration that you have been experiencing due to the amount that this effects your mail and FTP usage on a severe level. Unfortunately, this is simply unavoidable. When dealing with servers in any manner when a hard drive becomes degraded it must be rebuilt into the server configuration to ensure that that server remains online and your data does not become corrupt. Currently the RAID configuration status is as below:

Unit UnitType Status %RCmpl %V/I/M Stripe Size(GB) Cache AVrfy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
u0 RAID-5 REBUILDING 23% - 64K 1396.96 OFF OFF
u1 SINGLE OK - - - 698.481 OFF OFF

There is nothing that we can do to expedite this process and it is completely software automated making our hand in this merely a hindrance. If you require further information in regards to the rebuild please let us know however at this time all that can be done it be patient and wait for its completion.

Surpass hosting have offered me one month free hosting compensation for this catastrophic occurrence....please....
that covers the phone call I made to my client pleading them not to change companies. Surpass hosting? Give me a break!!

Surpass hosting? you just lost a 5 year client that has referred over 100 clients to you to date. They have all been instructed to change servers immediately and tell everyone possible that they know on and off line about this 100% unprofessional service and loss of income they have occurred because of it.

Signed, a 5 year Ex Surpass hosting dissatisfied customer. Dec 12 - 2011

[dedicated] anyone interested?

I've had a dedicated server for nearly a year now that I got on a lifetime promotion. The provider offers "One-Time" upgrade fee's and I've upgraded my server from the stock offering with the "One-Time" fee's. The server is as follows:

Intel Celeron 2.8 Ghz (It does support 64-bit)
2 GB DDR Ram
160 GB IDE HDD
1 TB B/W on 10Mbit Port
Remote Reboot (No Charge)
IP/KVM At Request (No Charge, No Limit)
Install your own OS
2 IP's (IPv4)
IRC Allowed

It's been a rock solid server and I've had no outages and support answers in 5-10 minutes but simply need something with more power so I have ordered another server but would hate to see this one go to waste.

There is no contract, just wanting to see if anyone is interested in this server before I give it back to them. The cost? $19 a month.

ICANN snubs critics, opens domain extension floodgates

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/11/icann_gtld/
quote:Buy .whatever-you-want for just $185,000

For a hefty $185,000 (£119,500) processing fee – a third of which will be dumped into ICANN's legal defence fund – any company or organisation in good standing can attempt to get its hands on a right-of-the-dot vanity address that will be the functional equivalent of .com or .uk.

Domain name registry service providers currently expect ICANN to receive between 1,000 and 1,500 applications, about two-thirds of which will be for so-called "dot-brand" gTLDs. So far only a handful of companies have announced their intention to apply for a dot-brand, among them are Hitachi (.hitachi), Canon (.canon) and Deloitte (.deloitte).

Geographic gTLDs are expected to account for about one in 10 applications, according to ARI Registry Services, a domain services provider. Many major cities – including London, New York, Berlin, Paris and Las Vegas – have already announced their intention to apply for "dot-city" domains.

There are also expected to be hundreds of examples of gTLDs related to specific niche industries – .wine and .jewelers have already been proposed – as well as mass-appeal strings such as .blog, .web, .music and .sport.

[dedicated] what can it be used for?

I have a dedicated server that I've had for a while now but haven't really put to any use... I use it more as a "toy" than anything else. The server is very low end which has really put a limit on what I can do with it as it seems to crawl with advanced CMS's and such.

Specs:
Single Core Celeron 2.80 Ghz CPU
2 GB DDR PC3200 Memory
160 GB ATA HDD
10 MBit Port
1000 GB B/W
Self-Installed OS via KVM/ISO (currently running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise)
My Price: $19 monthly

Just being curious but those of you who use a lower end server like this, or resell lower end servers like this, what are they used for exactly?

[vps] Anyone can offer advice on a VPS provider?

Can anyone recommend a good VPS host? I was planning to start a project I am working on at Slicehost, and to my horrow, found that they were acquired....by Rackspace.

I have never liked them. I will not be using the monstrocity that they have turned Slicehost into.

Are there any other services, that you have used, that you could recommend? I don't need a dedicated server. Any responses would greatly be appreciated. It was just a big shock. I guess Rackspace is buying everyone up these days.

There was another one I used quite a bit but whomever they were peering with always had issues and it created a great bit of lag for me which is what made me look around and I found Slicehost.
