Speedstream 4200 Xbox Live NAT problem

Hello all. I have an Xbox 360 with Live and I'm suddenly experiencing some NAT problems. When I run a network diagnostic test on the Xbox Live dashboard it tell me that my NAT is open, but when I try playing Halo 3 while searching for a match it tell's me that my Strict is not open. I've tried port forwarding and it didn't work. Just about a week ago I was playing with a friend but when I noticed this problem I haven't been able to connect to his games. :) Help is appreciated.

What's the REAL price for WS 12mb DSL service???

Greetings:

Windstream wants to lure me away from cable internet
service. But I'm not buying into it until I know
how much it's actually going to cost me. I thought
I'd ask my questions here before calling WS and
get hit with a pitch.

I'm not interested in bundles. I need to know the
real monthly rate for unbundled 12mb DSL service;
both during and after the 6 month promotional
period. (I live in New York if that matters.)

I know that there are upfront costs for the 'free'
modem; $50 plus shipping. I have two different
quotes for the shipping fee; $12.99 from the mailer
and $7.99 from the website. Which should I believe?

I've read that as a current cable internet subscriber
I can get a $5/month discount for the first year.
Are there any catches with this offer?

I've also seen a cryptic reference to a 'termination
fee' with no indication of how much it is, or how/
when it is applied. Can anyone shed some light on
this?

Perhaps there are other hidden costs that I'm not
aware of?

One more thing: How much will Windstream charge me
per month to lease a second IP number?

Once I have this info I can decide if windstream is
really a better deal that my current ISP

Thanks,

- Junkman

Help Activating New Account Without Installing Any Bloatware

Hello,

I am getting a new 12Mb Windstream account and it's supposed to be set up next Tuesday. I am new to Windstream and from reading the installation instructions and posts on this forum it sounds like they want to install 100MB of crapware onto my system. I'm doubting any of it is necessary, and would prefer to install nothing.

I have a Speedstream 4200 which I plan to connect to my wireless router, and it looks like I need to put the modem into bridge mode to do that. Do I need to activate my account before hooking up the router? And is there a way to avoid the software installations?

Thanks in advance!

[Troubles] 1 year later, STILL having issues!

Can someone PLEASE point me to a tech who can fix this problem?

I first posted about my issue around a year ago. Every time it rains, the connection dies.

Every time it's not raining, and the temperature gets above 75, the connection dies.

Techs have come to my house repeatedly! My end is fine.

The problem (according to the techs) is the DSLAM we connect to. Also according to the techs, it's been replaced. So WHY am I still having this problem?

Called WS tech support tonight, explained the issue AGAIN, and was told "There's nothing we can do for you, have a nice day." >click!

If Windstream wasn't the ONLY provider in my area, I swear I'd drop them in a heartbeat.

I'm about to start calling the Attorney General on Monday if something isn't done soon!

[Troubles] 4200 loses connection nightly for 8 to 10 minutes

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and found you all via Google web searches trying to find out how to fix a problem that has been occurring and is highly annoying.

I have been a DSL subscriber for over 10 years. First with Mylinuxisp.com a great ISP. When I called I had a competent tech who knew his job and could fix the problem fast. Often times the owner would call me back to let me know they received my voice mail even at midnight! Any way they were bought out by AllTel who then became Windstream. Now I have issues with competency/language barrier issues trying to get help. I am told this problme will be fixed nightly.

I use to have a CISCO modem(Router) that no longer works and had to switch over to the Speedstream 4200. I have 3Mb Down 748Kb up service that I pay for. I am a gamer and play WoW usually from 8:45pm CST to about midnight. Lately for the past month it seems between 10:25 and sometimes 1:00am I get disconnected and kicked out of the game. I started paying attention to the 4200 and the DSL light goes off and then about 5 minutes later it comes back on. After getting kicked from the game I can get back in about 10 minutes later.

I have been calling windstream nightly about the problem. They check the modem and of course it's working fine by the time I get thru the menu hell loops and disconnects and call back to finally get to a talking person.

Several days ago they sent out a tech. He said my line to the office had been tore up by a weed eater. He suggested to have the line replace. I tried to do it my self and failed so called back and another tech came out to re-run the line. We used my Cat5 cable to make a new line from the box on the back of the house to my office. The tech put a whole hose filter on and the new line is the only line that is used for the DSL connection. When he was done I checked my speed and I was only getting 512kb down and up. He ran some test and went to the neighbor's yard to look at a hook up and said he had to re-splice the line.

After he did this I was able to get 2.5mb down again. I was pretty happy thinking the problem had been fixed. Then the original problem occurred again getting dropped and the modem dsl light going off for 8 to 10 minutes.

Here are the numbers from the Web interface DSL Status/Statistics:
SNR avg 14.5 to 17.5 mostly 17.5 no higher
Atten. is always 45.5
from 00-00-0000 16:41:25 to 31:26:25 I have had the following:
TxCRC = 0
Tx FEC = 939524096
Rx CRC = 8
Rx FEC = 1188
LOS = 0
SEF = 0
LOS (sec) = 0
SEF (sec) = 0
Err (sec) = 910
Rx (blocks) = 3192007
Tx (blocks) = 3192007

On the Ethernet Status/Statistics page I have the following:
Port 1
Tx 3560592881 Octets 4455248 Unicast 5916 Non-Unicast 4461164 Total 0 Dropped 0 Errors

Rx 1441944161 Octets 4043046 Unicast 9776 Non-Unicast 4052822 Total 244 Dropped 0 Errors

On the ATM/AAL Status/Statistics I have:
Uptime 31:24:14 Max. Theoretical Speed (Bit/sec) 3067000

ATM Statistics
Tx 1503370644 Octets 31320221 Cells 3944039 Unicast 0 Non-Unicast 3944039 Total 7397 Dropped 0 Errors N/A Invalid 0 Queued
Rx 3576027258 Octets 74500567 Cells 4403736 Unicast 0 Non-Unicast 4403736 Total 0 Dropped 159781 Errors 0 Invalid N/A Queued

ATM/AAL Status/Statistics
0/35 VPI/VCI B1483 Protocal UP Admin Status UP Oper Status 382 Tx-Rate (kbps) 3067 Rx-Rate (kbps) 632651 Tx-PDUs 0 Tx-Errs 40190 Rx-Errs

I think I read that the 14 to 17 SNR is ok not good but doable and the same with the Attn.

Does anyone here know or see anything else that may enlighten me or the techs to figure out a resolution for this dropping issue.

I have the DSL going to the 4200 connected to my PC direct.

They have dropped off a new Seimen 4200 for me to today to try and see if that will resolve the problem.

Sorry for the wall of text but wanted to make sure I gave enough info to be able to work with for troubleshooting if possible.

Kind Regards,
Don

12mbps line, but only getting 8mbps

I just signed up for 12mbps and Windstream provisioned it today. I checked the speed on speedtest.net, and I am getting 9613 Kbps down and 813 Kbps up. My S/n is 8 and Atten. is 33.5

Is my SNR too low to get 12mbps? I don't have a NID installed, just the terminal block, so I couldn't check my connection there. Will replacing the NID make a SNR improvment?

Thanks in advance for any comments.
