Phone interferring?

We have an external parabolic dish, it's 900 mhz and our phone sometimes seems to interfere with the internet. We have a DSL filter on our phone line but we still seem to get connection interruptions about 50% of the time the phone rings. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes we'll get a CI and 2 seconds later, the phone will ring. Any thoughts/ideas on this issue? Thanks!

btw it was a cordless phone but it's not anymore and it still does it.

Wireless not a suitable replacement for wired broadband

Folks, none of these wireless broadband services, perhaps with the exception of Clearwire if they get their act together, should ever really be considered a suitable replacement for wired broadband, or doing much beyond web page browsing and e-mail. The occasional short YouTube video, if you are prepared to wait for it, is one thing, but I am very surprised to see people wasting their time and energy on peer to peer services, gaming, or downloading enormous files. Trying to watch a Netflix movie off any of these services is ridiculous. You are assuming capabilities mobile broadband really isn't well designed to provide for now.

Additionally, with a 5GB usage cap on virtually all of these plans, you'd blow through your usage allowance pretty rapidly.

For rural folks, I wish I had a better answer, because many of you don't have cable modem access, and DSL service from the phone company, if you can get it, is probably speed rated between 1 and 3Mbps. It's why we fight so hard for better broadband service in this country.

When considering mobile broadband from Cricket, or anyone else, you should really expect to use the service for web browsing, e-mail, and light duty higher bandwidth services like short video clips and audio streams. If your needs go beyond that, no wireless broadband provider is going to truly meet your requirements at this point.

Verizon aircard

said by uid://1680981 :I feel really bad for those living in true rural areas.
I am ~3 miles from population ~30k people.
Can't get DSL, too far away.
Can't get cable, not wired out of town.
Have never tried satellite.
There might be a WISP available but it is questionable because we are down in a hole.

We are living with a Verizon aircard. 5 Gb/month cap.
If we were to use ONE extra Gb we would get charged $256.
$0.25 x 1024 = $256.

Sooo:
Weekly trip to the library to download MS Updates.
RETURN trip if I didn't get the correct Updates. :(
MS doesn't make it simple. It isn't hard, just tedious.
I download VirusScan updates when I remember.

Have used Dial-Up when we get close to run over.

What's wrong with my Wireless ISP?

Hi i was hoping since the technicians at my Wireless ISP has not or aren't able to resolve this issue am experiencing for over a month now that the guys here might be able to give some help....The problem with my connection is that it cuts of or drops every 20mins or so round the clock everyday...I have 1 neighbor and 2 uncles that live like a stone throw away from me to the east and west of my home....All of us cut off the same time...it doesn't matter if we r using a wireless router cause i have 1 but my two uncles do not have any so i know that's not the problem..I did some basic troubleshooting like try different labtops.desktops to no avail but the thing is all of us disconnect at the same time and it stays down for like 3 mins then connect backs again. Then goes back down in the next 20mins exact. The problem is definitely on their end cause all 4 of us are affected at the exact same time..My isp is using the Motorola canopy systems and we r like 2 miles away from the broadcasting tower....We have contacted the technicians for my wireless ISP and seems like they can't resolve the problem. All they do is reset the connection but the issue still happens..Do u guys think u might be able to offer any suggestions based on your experience?

[Fixed] Question about Canopy Wireless Technology

After dealing with a local WISP for 2 years, and having the run around for that time, I'm extremely sour when it comes to wireless internet.

Another local company though, started a year ago, uses Motorola Canopy, on the 900 MHz frequency, boasting 3Mbps down, 1Mbps up, NLOS gear, and 100 to 200ms, all for 39.99 a month, static IP being optional for an additional 10 dollars.

Along with that, there's no contract, it's month to month, and the first month is completely free if we dislike the service for any reason.

Now like I said, I'm extremely close minded to the whole wireless scene now after my issues with the first company, but everything that was WRONG with that company, bad/no signal 24/7, zero customer support, 2 year contract with a ridiculous price locked in (60$), and crappy equipment, is negated in this new company, boasting nothing but positives across the board.

Then I read the posts on this site, about the 500 different things that can interfere with a signal so easily, so then my concern turned in to a nightmare of thoughts of what to expect.

Is it really THAT easy and common for a stupid object like a baby monitor or cordless phone to completely handicap my signal?

I mean I gotta think logically on this, why would a business man, good OR bad, put up a tower and offer service near an interfering frequency?

The tower is just over 1 mile away, and if I stand on my roof I can see it clearly, so LOS shouldn't be an issue, but after reading these horror stories, I'm so paranoid that, even if it works now, some neighbor who couldn't close her legs will end up having a baby monitor soon, ruining my experience, and leaving my powerless.

I need some information, and if you need more information, let me know.

The site is www.winchesterwireless.com and as far as I could see, there's no hits when I search them on dslreports, but the technology their using does have hits.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any info/tips you can offer!

I'm getting WISP soon. I cant get DSL or cable here, so my best option because I'm a gamer is WISP. I'm getting WISP from Razzolink. I havent ordered it yet and im wondering what kind of hardware I need for wisp. I have a LINKSYS Wireless G Broadband Router WRT54G. Is this part needed for wisp? What other hardware do I need for wisp? I'm doing calculations how much I have to spend on wisp. Thanks

Rocket sticks in the USA?

I'll be spending several months in the USA, traveling by motorhome, and then stationary for a couple of months in Florida.
Any suggestions for the best options while there? Signing up for Canadian service is prohibitively expensive because of roaming charges, so I'd like to find a "no-contract" provider, even if I have to buy the stick.
Who should I call? I have a couple of different USA addresses that I can use, if that's a requirement.
Thanks, PT
