Are there any Houston Wireless ISPs?

Looking for a little help. I am trying to find a wireless ISP in the Houston area, specifically Reliant Stadium area.

I have a week long event there and need internet service that has a more stable connection than EVDO offers. The stadium offers a T1 line, for $5100...

I used the DSLR ISP tool and didn't find anything. If you guys can name any one in the area that would be a big help.

cheers.

I use WMIS wireless and they are alright but I don't think they are ever going to offer anything higher than 800K or so here. Anyone else in the area offer higher?

Probably a question asked a few times, but......

Hello

My brother is having nightmares with his Insight BB cable connection, so he fired them. He is looking at an ATT Aircard for access. He doesn't use Bittorrent, or stream online videos. he occasionally surfs web pages, and reads email.

ATT has a 50 meg limit, and then charges per kilobyte of data. The question is......Surfing Google, and checking the email 3 or 4 times a day...just how much IS 50 meg of data? If you surf busy websites, how quickly does it add up?

I have an aircard, but I never see the bill (company paid). Thanks in advance for your help.

T1 Alternative from WISP, need opinions.

Hello, I live in an area where Cable and DSL are not available and won't be for years. I have tried Hughesnet, Verizon EVDO with Kyocera router, and now I have ISDN 128k. Service with Verizon was choppy between EVDO and 1x so I cancelled. Hughesnet was OK, but no VPN and the FAP was a problem with 2 kids downloading games and music. I was researching a T1 to share with my only neighbor at roughly $175 each per month when I got a quote from http://www.1800high-speed.com/ for a 3G fixed wireless 1M/512k for $149 per month. You get a fixed IP address and 99.9 SLA. They claim that they have equipment that boosts up to 10 times that of traditional EVDO cards and they can combine bandwidth of all surrounding cell towers from all cell providers including CDMA and GSM. I searched but can't find anything on this site. Has anyone heard of this and is it a good solution for the price.

Those of you who know about EVDO can you help me...

I'm still having problems with my Wildblue so I'm reasearching other options.

EVDO is NOT available in my area but At&T offers a USB direct card for wireless internet. According to the website the card is a 3G and the speeds are 1.4 Mbps download and 800Kbps upload.

If I currently have the value pack plan with WB then would this At and T offer be better? My contract is up with WB and this card would be free. It's 60.00 a month for unlimited use.

Thanks!

Help w/ talking to my ISP?

Hello everyone,

For the past month my WISP has been substandard and I was looking for some advice about what to say or not to say when I call them in the next couple days to hopefully get this resolved or if necessary to terminate my subscription. I know there are people from both sides of the fence reading here so I thought that the feedback would be insightful.

Background: When I first signed on with this particular WISP around a year ago I was customer #60 and it has grown to the point now that there are over 300 customers on the network. Until recently I couldn't complain much since the connection was both fast and reliable. Occasionally service would go out for maybe five minutes but given that I had been using dialup for several years it didn't bother me much.

Unfortunately things become so awful during the past month it often makes me think I would be better off with dialup again. Late June our internet quit working for a week. Then around July 20th it went down completely. By this point losing the connection for a hour or two was fairly routine so it wasn't until the second day that I called. One of the tech said over the phone that somebody was working on a tower and it should be resolved within a day or two. After a week and the internet still not working I called back and left a voice mail explaining our troubles. It seems that 95% of the time when you call tech support you just get sent to voicemail and never talk to a real person. This is frustrating because often the voicemail message explains that a particular tower is having trouble or a server is being upgraded so it's difficult to know if the problem is with my end or theirs. They almost never call back either.

Really it makes me feel like a woman's obsessed psycho ex-boyfriend that won't quit calling and leaving voice mails, though all I want is for my internet to be operable again. Around five days later I'm gardening outside and two techs pull into my yard saying they wanted to check out our transceiver since they haven't heard back from me in a while. After looking over the antenna they concluded it had become crooked which was only required a quick adjustment. They left and when I tried to use the internet it still wouldn't work. Immediately I call tech support and leave a message on the voice mail explaining the problem. Two days later I haven't heard back from them so I leave a second message. The following day I call back a third time and explain to the guy who transfers the calls that I absolutely want to talk to a real person and that voice mails aren't getting me anywhere. The employee agrees to hand my message to the owner and that they will do whatever it takes to fix the problem. Around 2-3 days later a different transceiver (I think) was installed and the owner called explaining that the trees in our yard had grown and were obscuring the line of sight to the tower. I was supposed to cut those down and if that didn't work a large antenna would be place on the transceiver and if that still didn't work it would be moved onto the roof.

So I cut down the branches which didn't fix anything and left a message on their voicemail again and a week later they installed this six foot long antenna that was on back order and we now have 50% uptime. This obviously isn't good at all so now I'm supposed to call them back and have them move it onto the roof.

So what am I supposed to do now? If I ask them to put the antenna on the roof they will will get around to it in another week. It likely won't work since we have more tree cover at that height then at ground level. I will have to leave 2-3 more messages on their voice mail before they tell me that the trees are obscuring the line of sight and I have to cut down those branches as well. That's not something I can do myself and would have to hire professionally done since it's so close to some power lines. I'm not even confident enough in these people that after spending a couple hundred dollars to get those trees cut that it will even fix the problem. I'm guessing there will be something else that needs to be done.

Up until recently I have been driving to the library to check my email, I couldn't even do that at home. That was for an entire billing period too. I'm about ready to tell them that I'm done with their service and I'm going back to dialup, though I really just want the service back I was getting only a month and a half ago. Any help with this?

Thanks!

Looking for help

Hello,
I hope I am posting my query in the right place and apologize if I haven't. I have been spending the better part of 2 hours trying to determine which wireless internet provider will give me the best bang for my buck. I have recently started a new job that has me working on oil rigs in remote locations. The satellite internet connection is lacking, and I am interested in purchasing a card to satisfy my needs. Optimally, I would like to be able to play World of Warcraft during my off-time. Is there a provider that would be able to meet my needs? I am using a new MacBook Pro if that makes any difference. Thank you for any help you can offer. I really appreciate it.
