WOW mg5225g/na Gateway Ports will not open

I have been a WOW customer for a few years and decided last week to go Ultra. Had I known about the MAJOR issues with this system I would have never done it. Issues I face are as follows

* Intermittent wireless connection when more than 6 wireless connections made.
* Cable boxes go black at times (on 3rd box and one is offline completely)
* No ports are able to forward through Gateway.
* DMZ does not function
when 4 wireed connections are made it limits wireless traffic.

I should state that previous to this I was running a DGL-4500 behind their modem with NO issues what so ever. I was happy with the speeds and the ability to forward what ever ports I wanted at will.

I am on my 3rd box in a week and I have a Lead Tech now coming to the house with a New box. He is also try to tell me that the Arris Gateway does not allow you to forward ports by design. I find this hard to believe due to the support from so many forums out there of people that can do it.

If any of you have had issues like mine can please suggest your resolution? I am open to anything at the moment.

Ultra TV Internet Connectivity Concern

First, I am a rather advanced user. I have a Watchguard firewall in place utilizing a drag and drop VPN to my employer. I am on the IT team, and find it most useful to have always-on access to the office, especially in emergencies.

I am a current WOW user and have purchased a new TV today, this gives the house its third HD TV and I would very much like to get a whole home DVR solution like Ultra TV, however I have concerns about the way WOW has integrated the TV and the Internet portions together. Phone support assured me "My VPN will work fine once the settings are put into the gateway", but somehow I don't think they understand how it works.

The firewall is an extension of my work's private IP scheme utilizing 10.x.x.x. I would assume the WOW gateway will use the traditional 192.168.0.x that comes on all garbage low end home networking devices.

As I understand it, the Gateway acts as the hub for all of the TV boxes, and the wireless network provided by the gateway is what supplies the video streams to each TV box, in addition to being the wireless network for the household.

It really boils down to, can I place my firewall behind the Gateway and still have my tunnel to the office, and retain the IP scheme and functionality that the Firebox, and my own Wireless Device provides?

Alternatively, and what I would REALLY PREFER, is to get Ultra TV but have the Internet provided by a traditional modem INSTEAD of the Gateway. I realize the gateway is necessary for the function of all of the set top boxes, Im not implying I not have one, but I would rather it operate as my TELEVISION source, and my internet be provided by a traditional modem so I can retain the setup I currently have on my internet and internal network.

Does anyone have any experience using Ultra TV in this type of scenario, and if not specifically with a VPN, at least with some other Router or firewall device behind the "Gateway" running with no problems. I have heard rumors that using another Wireless device with DHCP could cause a set top box to get the wrong IP and stop communicating with the gateway. Though I'm having a hard time understanding how that is possible since anything I run in tandem with this would be locked down with a separate key that the WOW boxes likely would not be programmed to connect to, so the only network they should be able to connect to would be the gateway's.

But again, I'm looking for someone who has the equipment, and can better describe to me the precise set up and how it works so I can make a better decision on whether or not to get the service.

I already want the service, but not if it is going to be a nightmare to get my home network to remain the way it is.

Sorry for the long post. Any help or information is appreciated.

It talks about being able to see the Basic and Broadcast HD channel names.

I can pickup the info on the Broadcast HD's but not the basic.
I have also seen where others are having simular issues.
I am in the NW Sub's of Chicago and would like to know if WOW is aware of this and or if there is something WOW can do to help.
I am including a log file of my QAM scan.

Wow! in Pinellas

Just got WOW Internet installed, and I am pleased with the results. I am not a bandwidth snob, and like that their 15/2 is about $20 cheaper than brighthouse's 10/1.

Details of my install.... The young man who installed it was very professional and installed it exactly how I asked. Since I didn't have an underground cable running from their box to my garage he had to leave it above ground and mark it until a trenching crew could bury it within 8-10 days. I do like the fact the Wow has their employees ground to my meter ground as opposed to my water line, even though it is more work.

I am getting 1.7MB/sec on average which equates to almost 14Mb/sec when I was only getting 1.1MB/sec or almost 9Mb/s with brighthouse. These are real-world results pulling Fedora ISOs over bit torrent.

Since FIOS is not available in my area it is finally nice to have some competition to Brighthouse.

DLNA video - no audio output on one media player

Hi folks,

I am hoping someone here can help me out before I pull out what is left of my hair. I am attempting to rip my Blu-ray collection and transcode them to MKV files so that I can watch them on any TV in the house using Ultra TV. This is generally working fine for me on two of my three media players. The third one is giving me fits.

I have tried transcoding this about 15 different ways, and I am getting the same result no matter what I try:

Media player #1 is set up in the family room and hooked up to a 39" flat screen via HDMI. TV handles Dolby Digital, so that's what I have the media player set to. My MKV files play just fine - great picture and audio works ok.

Media player #2 is set up in the master bedroom and hooked up to a 32" flat screen via HDMI. Same as above. Everything works fine.

Media player #3 is in the basement in my home theater. It's connected via HDMI to my Onkyo receiver. The Onkyo outputs video via HDMI to the projector and is hooked up for 5.1 surround sound to my speakers. Media Player is set to Dolby Digital, and Ultra TV plays just fine. Great picture and sound - no complaints there at all. However, when I try to play the MKV files I get picture only. No sound. I have tried encoding the MKV files with at least 5 different audio streams, and no matter what I try I get nothing by silence. I am absolutely stumped.

What's really driving me crazy is that I get sound just fine from the cable in the home theater. Since the other media players are outputting the sound just fine to the TV's, I'm at a loss as to why I can't get sound in my home theater from the streamed video files. I've been playing with this on and off for a few weeks now as time permits, and I have been unable to come up with a solution. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm ripping the Blu-Rays using DVDfab decrypter, and transcoding using Vidcoder. The thing driving me crazy is that I can play the files on 2 of the three TV's. Argh!!!

Thanks,

Gary

DMZ to RV042 throughput

I have a Linksys RV042 VPN router for my remote office. It is connected to the WOW gateway and I have DMZ enabled and setup. I can connect and all seems fine except the throughput.
Ultra and ASUS Router "Non-problem"

Finally pulled trigger on Ultra TV install last week and am pleased. I expected problems using my existing dual band ASUS RTN56U wireless router with Arris Gateway. However, I simply unplugged the ASUS WAN cable from my Motorola SB5120 modem and plugged it into one of Arris Gateway LAN ports; disabled the Arris radio; and everything seems fine. I did not even have to reset the ASUS to AP mode or configure a DMZ as I have seen in some forum posts. Wireless and wired connections (all connected to ASUS router) work fine; networked printer is fine; and access to network drive on ASUS USB port works fine. Am I missing something here? What capability or future problem with this very simple "plug and play" configuration am I missing? I thought it would be a lot more complicated to get it all working.

Internet connection dropping repeatedly

I've had WOW for a 1.5 years now in our house. In the past week or two, I have noticed a significant issue with our connection. I have had to reset the router/modem at least once a day to resolve connection issues. Now I can't even do simple web browsing without the connection dropping every 10 - 15 minutes (sometimes less). I wish I was joking, but it's getting so bad I'm considering dropping them completely. I've had no issues until recently which makes it all the more frustrating. A tech is coming out tomorrow and I don't want him to leave without doing something because this really shouldn't be happening.

I went to the signal of the modem to get the following stats:

Downstream	Value
Frequency	621000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio	34.4 dB
Power Level	-15.1 dBmV
The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream	Value
Channel ID	8
Frequency	37500000 Hz
Power	55.2 dBmV

The download power seems way too low, and the upload power seems way too high, though I could be wrong here. Tonight alone since I've been home for about 3.5 hours, our connection has dropped at least a dozen times. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

New wow ultra tv customer problems

Hi. I just got wow ultra tv on Tuesday. I've had 7 calls into wow and a rep is coming out tomorrow. My problems have been the cant communicate with the gateway, check cable connection, not subscribed to this content (even though I am), disruption of Internet and loss of signal (have 15/2 and get 15/2 to 10/2 to 3/2, to 0/0). Each call has required a reboot of the gateway. They have reset the channel twice for the router/wireless network. I'm starting to worry about my switch to wow not being the right one. Is this typical for the ultra tv system? Is my hardware bad? Bad cable somewhere? Should I downgrade to reg dvr and plain hd cable boxes. Suggestions? Thoughts?
Thanks!

UltraTV splitters information - some good info

I was talking with WOW_Dan through private messages and I figure what we were talking about should be known to everyone because it's good information for people with UltraTV and a lot of media players.

I'm in the process of setting up a data rack in my basement with all coax and data going to one spot. Within the next month or so I'm will be in the process of pulling quad shielded rg6 cable for every bedroom plus a few for my future man cave and maybe one in the garage. I'm getting ready for when my son (who is three) will be old enough for a TV in his own room, plus when my man cave is finished and i'll want one or two TV's in there. With that being said, I instantly thought about splitters and db loss of signal from having too much connected at once. My incoming feed is already weak according to several WOW techs. The issue is at the pole, not in the inside. They kept promising to send a crew out to troubleshoot at the pole but never follow through so I gave up asking.

That being said, if I split my already weak signal too many times, I'm going to end up with no signal at all. You can't add an amp to UltraTV (well you can but it's tricky to do). So I had to rely on passive splitters.

WOW_Dan said that the gateway is the only piece of equipment that needs a strong signal coming in from the pole. Also if you have DTA, Cable Cards, or ClearQam, they also need strong signals. If all you have are the UltraTV media players, then they feed off the power from the gateway. Thus db loss is less of an issue with them.

When the tech installed my UltraTV, he installed a 3 way splitter because I only had two media players. The splitter was one of those that had 3.5 db loss at one port and 7 db loss at the other two. He hooked the gateway up to the 3.5 db loss port and the media players at the 7 db loss ports. Now what if you have more than two media players? You will need a bigger splitter which means more db loss for the gateway. Well you can get around that.

You can have your incoming coax connect to a 2 way splitter (3.5 db loss at each output). Put one to the gateway, the other one goes to another splitter. Depending on how many media players you have, you buy that size splitter and it should be good to go. That way your gateway gets the clean 3.5 db loss signal it needs to function, and the media players can all talk to the gateway with their own splitter and higher db loss which doesn't really matter.

Again, if you don't use media players on some TV's, you still need strong signals from those. This is just for media players.

I vision at least four connections in the future. One for my main TV, one for my bedroom, one for the son's bedroom, and at least one for the man cave. So I was planning on using a 4 way splitter for the media players.

If you do need extra power coming in, you can buy a one line amp that would go before your gateway. Just make sure it has passive return so your modem doesn't stop working. Also it will increase your modem db signal by a few so make sure your signal is good before you do it. Also leave that MoCA filter on so your neighbors don't get your signal.

Sorry for the long post. I hope this information helps you like it's going to help me.
