Zywall and DNS-O-MATIC DDNS updater

OpenDNS offers a "universal" DDNS updater called DNSOMATIC. Basically, router manufacturers make their routers compatible with DNSOMATIC and through the DNSOMATIC website you can update multiple DDNS services (the list is quite thorough).

One of the big advantages of DNSOMATIC is that it will also update OPENDNS so users can use their usage stats, content filtering service, etc.

Check it out, www.dnsomatic.com, www.opendns.com

Currently, I'm unable to find a way to update (without a software client) the OPENDNS service. That blows, but its the only way for the moment... (Comcrap won't give me a static IP)

Anyone with any pull with Zyxel should advise them of the DNSOMATIC service. And, BTW, DNSOMATIC is written using the DYNDNS API so it should be real easy for Zyxel to add support.

SPI really needed for home?

In playing with various routers I really haven't found any reason to be running an SPI firewall at home. The NAT firewall seems to do a fine job by itself and I see advice to disable the SPI to increase the stability of those routers that have it anyways. The SPI firewall in the ZyWall devices seems quite good compared to the flaky consumer grade implementations and I can see a large company wanting the peace of mind it brings - but hey, worst case a DOS attack on my home wouldn't be more than a minor annoyance. Does anybody out there have any real experience of a SPI router protecting them better than an ancient P-314 boat anchor grade router in a home environment?

ZyWALL to T1 connection advice needed

I have a client that wants two point-to-point T1 connections between three locations (A to C, and B to C) because they've been encountering severe delays with their IPsec VPN over the Internet. They have already maxed out the local DSL/cable options.

I'll have no problem buying the service for him, but have NO experience with point-to-point connections.

I'd like to stay in the ZyWALL/AdTran price range if possible. Specifically, I'd like to use ZyWALL 5 routers.

Any hardware recommendations?

How configure NAT M-1 on USG100 ?

Hi.
I always configured zywall 5/35. In the NAT section i can configure a NAT 1:1 (one to one) or NAT M:1 (multi to one).
In USG 100 i don't discovered where i can configure this feature.
I would configure for example :
1 fix pubblic IP (89.9.x.x) for LAN pc range (192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.253).

Help please...

Firewall popup notifications?

I was wondering if there is a PC utility that will monitor your ZyWall and pop up a notification when something is blocked? I'm playing with a LinkSys BEFSR81 V3 today and I found this utility that does just that for it!

P-334WT not using assigned time server

For some reason, my 334WT is appearantly getting its time from tock.stdtime.gov.tw. Why this is I have no idea. I have told it to get its time from 192.168.0.2 which is on the other side of my Zywall 2+. My 334-WT is on the Zywall 2+ WLAN area and has an ip of 192.168.0.2. Its set to use NTP.

I assume the routing is fine because the syslog is making its way to 192.168.0.2 just fine.

Does the 334-WT have its time server address fixed to Taiwan for some reason?

[OOL] Changes in DHCP handling?

As noted in the past string from Nov 27 last year.

It seems that the same issue has returned from OOL for the ZyXEL P-330W that the was documented last year in this forum.

The router sends a unicast release and renew and does not get a renewed IP.

I have again verified this by changing the router to a back-up D-Link which works perfectly.

I noticed that they did change the IP subnet and now this has disabled the ZyXEL router which is using this method of releasing and renewing an IP address when it boots up in its firmware.

If you are having this issue with your ZyXEL router on OOL please add to this string. This issue is the same as last year and we need some visibility for CV on this issue so we can use our ZyXEL routers again.
