Zywall 35 VPN Tunnel plus Client Route to VPN Server

I have a couple Zywall 35s on two LANs and a VPN tunnel connecting them and it works just great. How do I also use a VPN server that sits behind one of the Zywall 35s for client L2TP over IPsec connections from the outside? Is it even possible?

UK Firmware for 661H-D1

I have a 661H-D1 on which the current firmware is V3.40(API.0) dated 07/20/2006.

The Zyxel UK FTP site shows two firmware versions for this model: V3.4 (AHH.0)C0 and V3.4 (AHH.1)C0, the latter presumably being the latest version. For good measure the links on the UK web site take you to another version which is 3.40(AHH1)D0 In the Readme file for this version, it suggests you upload both the bin and rom files .

I'm thoroughly confused. Can anyone tell me which is the latest version? The modem was purchased through a UK dealer but I'm wondering if it is a grey import.

Dealing with DOS Attack - Zywall 5 ACL/Filters Question

The other day I was messing with a torrent program and noticed both a syn flood and IP spoofing attack alert sent from my Zywall 5 to email. The spoofed IP was in the range of 192.168.x.x, but outside the range, within that range, that I use for my LAN. I've tried to lock down my ZW5 by assigning all my hosts MAC's to a certain range of IP's and limiting the pool to just the number of hosts on my LAN, but the ZW5 still serves up other IP's. (so what's the "pool size" variable for, anyway?)

What I'd like to do is: "assign these MAC's with these IP's and only allow them exclusive access.(PERIOD)(AND NO OTHERS) And then periodically change the IP range so as to limit anyone's ability to guess what particular range is being used at a perticular time. This want, also applies to the ZW5's wireless (G110) interface that's on a different subnet for my single laptop. I'd like to IP "Lockdown" so that no other IP could have access to my WiFi.(period)

Alternatively, I found this as a security measure against IP spoofing:

"Filtering at the Router - Implementing ingress and egress filtering on your border routers is a great place to start your spoofing defense. You will need to implement an ACL (access control list) that blocks private IP addresses on your downstream interface. Additionally, this interface should not accept addresses with your internal range as the source, as this is a common spoofing technique used to circumvent firewalls. On the upstream interface, you should restrict source addresses outside of your valid range, which will prevent someone on your network from sending spoofed traffic to the Internet."

I was wondering how I could implement the above suggestion if I can't have it my way as mentioned above(if it would even work), or if there was a better way. Earlier I had tried to use a netmask to reduce my IP's but don't exactly understand the procedure as implemented in the ZW5.

Anyone care to tackle my monumental (at least to me) problem?

The ZW5 is in router mode, PPP over ethernet WAN connection, NAT SUA enabled, using default Firewall rules.

Thanks!

Zyxel 660HW Pinging through Modem for Gaming

Hi guys,

I have a Zyxel 660HW and DSL. I am playing Command and Conquer on the internet and what I have found is that the server or the other players cannot ping my computer when we setup a game. By default if I put a Linksys or a 2wire on they can ping through them and it works fine.

What can I do to open ping/icmp up on the Zyxel. I set the firmware to allow ping on wan/lan. I put my workstation in the "dmz" or I think the default server but still ping doesn't work. I also disabled the firewall too. Does anyone have any suggestions? I see the firmware posted is a few years old, is there a newer version of the software available?

Thanks,

Zyxel NBG460N firewall

hello :) this is my first post here.

i'm trying to set up my router which i bought this week (NBG460N) to allow all LAN to WAN connections but deny all WAN to LAN connections.

i just can't figure out how to do this in the administration page or with telnet.

when i define a rule, i can't find the fields (from - to) to say apply this rule to wan to lan only and not to the lan to wan connections.

it's either allow it to both or deny it to both.

please help,
thanks :)

Remote VPN user to remote VPN site issue

This one is hurting my head. I have been away from VPNs for a while so it may be a simple answer.

I have a remote user running GreenBow. They connect to a Zywall 70 at the main office. There are several remote offices connected via Zywall VPN routers.

User is trying to VPN into main office and use Remote Desktop to control a PC at a remote office.

The packet passes the Zywall 70 and is seen in the log as a VPN to WAN route.

Nothing is seen on the remote VPN router. I don't know if the issue is because it is wrapping the packet twice with VPN info or if it should be going through the VPN interface instead of the WAN on the Zywall 70.

I know this is not an ideal setup and I have other options. I just wanted to see if it could work.

Any ideas?
