Some postings recently claim that Flashcom and Covad have parted company. Or more accurately, Covad have dumped Flashcom as a partner. Others claim GTE and flashcom have parted as well. This is all unsubstantiated at least to us. Could it just be disgruntled customers looking to spread misinformation? 21 comments Distance problems invalidate a lot of ADSL requests, (along with load coils, residential redistribution boxes that are not DSL friendly, and lower quality loops). Bell Atlantic is reportedly looking at Westell's RADSL (rate adaptive ADSL) in an effort to push out distance limits beyond the current 12000 or so feet, and to cope with lower quality loops. How RADSL will be sold speed-wise might be interesting, since almost all DSL now is priced according to maximum downlink speed.. if RADSL can slide around according to line quality, what speed are you buying and what speed are you getting? 4 comments by justin Wednesday 22-Sep-1999 Covad Chicago office seems to have evaporated last friday.. leaving more than a few people with install appointments high and dry. story continues..9 comments An inside source tells us price waterhouse now have their laptops on desks and blue suits draped over a lot of chairs inside Flashcom, and are directing a massively costly (we're talking millions of dollars of chargable hours here) campaign to straighten out their books and records, and implement SAP, because right now, they are not sure who owes what to whom (its difficult to get much in the way of MIS out of stacks and stacks of manilla folders). Why spend such huge amounts of money on auditors? well, when a company goes public, its financial affairs are subject to intense scrutiny.. just a random thought... 12 comments Dunno if this qualifies as a rumor, but, Netopia cannot support Covads DSLAMs right now and it must gall them to see Covad pulling ahead of Northpoint, so the rumor is they are hurrying to add Covad DSLAM (nokia? speedlink?) compatibility to their SOHO router/firewall range. 9 comments A birdie told us that Pacbell is planning SDSL to be rolled out in 90 days, at a price less than their competition. The engineers have been instructed to keep it quiet. Confirmation ? 15 comments
