DSL:2

DSL standards are specifically known as SDSL, ADSL, IDSL and a number of less commonly used standards such as HDSL etc. They all work technically in similar ways. The basic principal is to divide up the frequency spectrum that can be carried reliably on twisted pair into two or three bands. One is for upstream traffic, one for down-stream, and the third for some standards is old style voice. Since telephone quality voice represents a fairly small frequency chunk, carrying that capability along with the data is not difficult.
