10 Year Cellphone Cancer Study Inconclusive
Though there's hints of problems from heavy use...
A massive new thirty year study into a possible relationship between cellphone use and health has only just been launched. Meanwhile, the previously largest study yet into whether cellphones cause cancer has just concluded, and appears to be inconclusive after ten years of research, reports the Vancouver Sun. The study found that no risk of glioma or miningioma were associated with low to regular usage of cellphones. The study did however notice "suggestions" of an increased risk of glioma at some higher cellphone exposure levels. Says the study:
quote:
"There was some evidence of an elevated risk of glioma in the highest decile of cumulative call time, with the highest point estimates seen for tumours in the temporal lobe and for subjects who reported having used their mobile phone mainly on the same side as that on which the tumour occurred."
However, some of the study's limitations (low participation numbers, relying on people's memory of usage patterns) prevented a directly causal link from being made. In other words, 19.2 million euros were spent to answer a question the study couldn't answer. The conclusion of the researchers? More research is needed.

I wouldn't be surprised if cell phone use

will become the 21st century's cigarette use.

Cell phones have been in use for quite some time, and it's about time that there was an intensive study being made.
