COVINA, Calif. -- Approximately 100 people were still displaced from their homes Monday after an early-morning fire at a three-story Covina apartment complex, Red Cross officials said.
The figure is based on an estimate of three people living in each apartment made uninhabitable as a result of Sunday's blaze at 1375 W. San Bernardino Road, said Derrick Andrade of the San Gabriel Valley chapter of the American Red Cross.
Only five people stayed overnight at a shelter the Red Cross set up at Northview High School at 1315 W. Cypress Ave., Andrade said. The others found alternate housing, most likely at a hotel, he said.
