With billions at stake in infrastructure and economic stimulus funds, it isn't just ISPs who are pushing and shoving for the latest cash handout from Uncle Sam. Hardware vendors have their hands outstretched too, and are doing whatever necessary to set themselves apart from the herd. Hardware vendor Zhone Technologies is petitioning the NTIA to "buy American" as they determine which companies get taxpayer funds -- of course highlighting themselves as the most suitable and patriotic candidate. Light Reading notes that Zhone does have their HQ, engineering and manufacturing in the US, though the company gets more than half its revenues from carriers outside the U.S. and obtains components from "a variety of qualified suppliers in the US, Far East, Mexico, and other countries."
