Hardware Vendors Scrapping For Stimulus Cash Carriers play on patriotism to net Uncle Sam's affections... With billions at stake in infrastructure and economic stimulus funds, it isn't just ISPs who are pushing and shoving for the latest cash handout from Uncle Sam. Hardware vendors have their hands outstretched too, and are doing whatever necessary to set themselves apart from the herd. Hardware vendor Zhone Technologies is petitioning the NTIA to "buy American" as they determine which companies get taxpayer funds -- of course highlighting themselves as the most suitable and patriotic candidate. Light Reading notes that Zhone does have their HQ, engineering and manufacturing in the US, though the company gets more than half its revenues from carriers outside the U.S. and obtains components from "a variety of qualified suppliers in the US, Far East, Mexico, and other countries."

"Buying American" doesn't always mean that's what you'll end up getting 100%.
Lets hope it isn't so...

I have to agree with Zhone here. The gov't money should be used to create as many jobs in the U.S. as possible. And U.S. manufacturers should be the 1st choice whenever feasible. Of course, that won't happen because China controls too much U.S. debt for the gov't to do something against the wishes of our economic masters. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

If they want to create real growth- reduce taxes on American companies and individuals. That's the ONLY way to get the economy going long term. There is no quick fix and any money thrown away at failing industries is just going to go into bonuses like AIG.

All the engineers who could make fab plants/circuit board plants are dead or in nursing homes by now.

1 edit | A stimulating vacation! Sort of following that logic, The State of Hawaii's #1 industry is tourism. Every dollar spent by tourists recycles through the States economy affecting occupations with no obvious tie to tourism. The majority of new job creations are directly tied into the health of the tourist market, as well the loss of existing jobs. Y'all should apply for Federal Stimulus Funds to vacation in Hawaii to help create & maintain US jobs!
EDIT to add: Don't forget the benefit to the airline industry this have as well as how it would help out the US Auto Industry with increased demand by the Auto Leasing industry.
