Assuming Verizon followed the letter of the law that allowed them to have this writeoff why should Verizon be punished for the poor business decisions made by someone else?
That sounds almost as silly and preposterous as forcing US taxpayers to bail out banks that made bad loans to people who should not have been borrowing in the first place.

Kind of like a company that was allowed an aquisition in the first place. Fairpoint should have never been allow to aquire Verizons unwanted territories. The regulators that allowed this to happen should be fired, and billboards itemizing this fiasco should be erected in areas that Frontier is looking to aquire from Verizon. -- BF69~~~Please stop suffocating gerbils!

| Re: I dont blame the PUC I heartily disagree with you on this point. It was/is the duty of the FCC, PUC, and SEC to act in the best interest of the consumer--not Verizon. The regulatory bodies failed to enforce the regulations created by the Telecom Reform Act, and let the ILECS stamp out competition. The ILEC designation means you are the carrier of last resort, and have the highest duty to provide service...no matter what the cost is. The hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses paid to the VZ executives, since the formation of the company, would more than have paid for the maintenance of the copper infrastructure and the deployment of DSL deeper into rural areas. The lack of common sense regulations, equally applied to the cable cos and telcos is what is truly hurting the industry. As long as the regulatory bodies can be coerced into adopting policies that favor the companies interests over the consumer interests, this BS will continue. | |

How do the unions have anything to do with the screwed up billing and the thousands of service requests that are stuck in Fairpoints computer systems? How do they have anything at all to do with the fact that due to these problems Fairpoint is struggling with customer retention?

Let's all put all our trust in "Corporate America" - these guys only want to do what is best for their employees - you know; like promoting a strong economy by employing US residents at decent wages, providing paid health insurance and the like... they're not interested in an annual compensation packages that are worth more than any one person near the bottom of their company's pay scale could make in hundreds or even a thousand years.

| Fairpoint Knows Come on lets not play round here. We all know they knew. The executives from both Faipoint and Verizon we well aware of the markets and the economy. The comission was handled behind the scenses as we all know the right people had been taken care of to make this pass. We know Ivan S. from Veizon made his rounds to each state to make sure the deal went through. Who knows what they are really up to, will we ever know until it is all said and done.
Does anyone else notice that it seems like they are trying to sink it.
