I suppose that means the Vegas market isn't seeing any speed upgrades, I really hate the lack of competition in this market.
We're still at 12 Mbps on Premier here. Don't get me wrong, it's better than 1.5 Mbps DSL from Embarq - but it's also frustrating when you see OC is getting double your speed for the same monthly rate.

Maybe not now, but hopefully later since U-Verse is a competitor in the Ft. Smith/Van Buren area.... although right now, Cox still has U-Verse trounced as far as speeds go....
The way the article is worded, ALL markets will get this increase. Doesn't mention specific markets. The local folks don't usually get their info until the last second...

| | Vegas Vegas should be getting this to... It's a large market that's not very far from Los Angeles. Embarq and Cox have such a stranglehold there. I thought Cox has a higher speed tier there though... | |

| Typos and envy "Norther" Virginia 15 Mbps down and "2 Mbps"
Typos aside, Cox's speed hikes are quite nice, though they're to be expected for DOCSIS 3.0 areas. That said, upload speeds are crappy across the board compared with Comcast. I'd have to get 50 Mbps down on Cox to get the same upload speed as I have right now on Comcast's mid-level DOCSIS 3 tier. Then again, 22/5 is $75 on Comcast, plus modem rental, whereas 25/3 on Cox is less and doesn't require a DOCSIS 3 modem as far as I can tell.

i'm currently on premier - but if i'm not using my speed, i have no qualms about downgrading and saving a little coin.

Their Premier tier will be bumped to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. Both tiers come with Powerboost, which will nudge speeds for the first part of a download or upload to 20/2.5 and 30/3.5, respectively.

In some Cox markets, such as those in Florida and Vegas, Cox doesn't even have to sweat knowing it rips the competition to shreds with 12 Mbps. It's especially bad when you consider the fact that Embarq/CenturyLink's idea of "future broadband" is bonded ADSL2 lines.

Rossco join:2004-01-05 Pittsburg, KS | I'm In Kansas and I've been getting these speeds... I'm in Kansas (Southeast Area) and I've been getting 20 Mbps down and around 2-3 Mbps up consistently on the Preferred package for the past 6 months.
I've been paying $44.99 a month for some time, but for 20 Mbps down and 2-3 Mbps up I'm stoked.
Recently there was a week where I had high latency. I was told by the tech that visitied that this was due to a fiber issue and it was statewide. He also told me Cox does plan to deploy DOCSIS 3.0 soon after it is deployed in other areas. Of course, Kansas won't get it first, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a very short amount of time after its dropped in other areas.
Throughout the 2 years I've had Cox, it has been a good experience.

| in an ideal competitive environment docsis 1.x should have been retired for use throughout the US & canada in 2008. speeds under 2.0 & 3.0 should be 15mbits and above with symmetric tiers at entry level. instead, we have companies milking 1.0 / 1.1 at speeds as low a 1mbit down & 384kbit upload for prices north of $30 a month into Q4 2009. | |
