Skype Offers Apps For More Verizon Phones
Now available for LG enV TOUCH, LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Reality
by Karl Bode 12:59PM Wednesday Aug 18 2010
After years of complaining about close wireless networks, Skype recently got a tad hypocritical (there's a lot of that going around), striking an "exclusive" deal with Verizon to offer a semi-crippled version of Skype on a limited number of Verizon smartphones. Skype and Verizon have now apparently expanded that partnership, the Skype blog announcing they'll soon offer a Skype app based on the BREW platform for a broader selection of Verizon phones, including the LG enV TOUCH, LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Reality. Like the previous Verizon app, Skype-to-Skype calls to or from your mobile, computer or TV are free -- but calls to another mobile number or landline number in the US will eat your Verizon Wireless minutes.

Gimped

This exclusivity agreement they signed with VZW will gimp and hold back skype for a long time, so it will not be pushed to full potential.

Worst thing Skype did was sign that!

Versus not having Skype on Verizon phones at all, pending some kind of "net neutrality" rules for wireless that may never come. They signed a deal that gives them some income versus NO income on Verizon Wireless.

Re: Other networks?

Kind of makes me mad as I own the Samsung Rogue (which is newer than the enV Touch) and spec wise (has more memory) and screen wise is better than the Samsung Reality. I understand the Rogue is no longer for sale, but just wanted to say thanks Verizon for screwing me and many others out of this app!
