Verizon Launching VCast App Store Next Week
Will carrier's definition of 'open' come with iron bars?
by Karl Bode 03:59PM Thursday Nov 04 2010
Verizon unveiled the fact they'd be implementing their own application store in the middle of 2009, though questions immediately surfaced about how open this store would be, and if it would clash with Android's own relatively-open application ecosystem. MG Siegler at Techcrunch directs our attention to the fact that Verizon is finally taking the wraps off this app store next week, rolling it out with a Froyo 2.2 update that should hit the Droid Incredible. Installation of Verizon's app store is automatic, and since these apps are tacked on to your Verizon bill, it will be interesting to see how heavy handed Verizon is in directing traffic bound for the Android marketplace their direction.

.

If something offers more value I would get something from them. But I don't think it will.

2.2 update

so will this be the only update on 2.2? If so, I see no reason to update... mostly because I have my phone rooted and removed all Verizon's garbage... no desire to do it all over again.

Re: 2.2 update

According to the update, this is along with other software enhancements and improvements, so I would assume there is more to it than just their app store.

Re: 2.2 update

Give the xda folks a few hours to work, and they'll release a ROM with the other updates but minus VZW's app store.

Another Verizon Story.

How many times do we need to say it! We need more stories about Verizon on the front page!

Heavy Handed?

Verizon certainly will not have a heavy handed approach to their store. The software update will only remap all buttons to open their store and conveniently automatically purchase the top 3 applications, billed conveniently to your phone account.

Verizon apps suck and are overpriced

VZ apps have always sucked and were a ripoff. $10 a month for a chess game? $10/month for GPS nav? Total Jip.

I'm no apple fanboy but thank steve jobs for making VZ see the light by eating their lunch with the app store.

vcast app store

Got the update today for my Droid incredible. It's been acting weird all day. Not to mention the vcast app store. It's the slowest pos I've ever seen. Takes forever to load, even when on WiFi. And the app selection sucks. Thanks Verizon for the shit app that I don't have the option to remove.
