British Telecom Plans Free (At First) Music Service Unlimited Downloads for an Additional Monthly Fee? Monday Apr 04 2011 09:02 EDT Leaked documents obtained by The Guardian suggest that British Telecom will be getting into the music business. According to the documents, the company is planning a new music download service that will be free for the first six to nine months in order to lure potential users away from P2P platforms -- after which time British Telecom plans to charge a monthly fee. Exactly what the pricing model and DRM situation will look like isn't clear yet, though given this is a phone company attempting content innovation while under pressure from music labels -- enthusiasm can likely be tempered accordingly. "We are very keen to launch a music service in the near future, but it will have to be with a model that customers will want and can work financially for BT," the company tells PC Pro. |
