Amazon Also Developing Original Content
To Try and Get Around Cable/Broadcast Licensing
While Apple may get all the attention, Amazon and their Prime video service is considered by many to be the real potential competitor Netflix has to worry about. Just like Netflix, Amazon faces licensing negotiations with a cable and broadcast industry that very much doesn't want pesky upstarts upsetting the apple cart, so as a result they're jacking up rates and imposing new release delays. Following on the heels of similar efforts by Netflix and Hulu, Amazon is now exploring the option of developing more original content in order to avoid being strangled by broadcaster licensing. The company recently hired a Vice President of Original Television, which supports earlier reports that Amazon is taking aim at original content.

Re: Same proviso

Sadly I doubt Fox will ever release the rights enough to allow more to be made. I bet that is why Wash and Book got killed in the movie. "well now they can't continue can they!".

Look for content owners to put the hammer on Amazon....

netflix style. Amazon can't expect continued favorable relationships if they become a competitor as well.

that is the main reason they are doing their own content... they are all ready getting blue balled worse and worse while other companies wanna launch their own service.

Problem for the content owners is Amazon is in a stronger position than Netflix because they are the Walmart of the internet.

if a content owner stated "Fine you have to wait two months to sell our DVDs"

Amazon could go. "We can play hardball too, we are the biggest damn online retailer and oh look we just delisted all your products"

In short it would be unwise for content owners to mess with Amazon who is a retail powerhouse. if Amazon stopped selling WB movies than WB would see a large hit to sales. This gives Amazon leverage where a company like Netflix has none.

Same reason why the movie industry wont piss off Walmart.

Original content is the way to go

Quit whining about others who make their own content and their asking price and make your own. If it is good, it will sell.

And if its good enough and the others come begging for some, show them the same respect in pricing they gave you for their content.
