This was no error. They were trying to sneak it in.Get real. This was not an error, as Smith tries to make us believe. They were trying to sneak in a policy change and they got caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar.
This will reappear - perhaps with better publicity - within 90 days.

sarsacm/ No no no. They were not trying to "sneak" this in. The page designer just forgot to put a "*" next to the word limit, the referencing notes should of been in a light grey color, against a bright white background, in size 2 font, near the bottom of the page next to the copyright information. /sarcasm

Actually, When I saw the new meter, I simply thought it was an updated way to see what I was doing. Of course I am not paranoid.

"I'll be back......"Confirmed the language has been changed. Wow...That was the fastest website update Cox has ever managed. I have been reporting other errors on their site for many many months with no correction. Note, all the links to "Have questions?" below the meter do not point you to the correct info and haven't for quite some time. I also bet that language will be back after the FAQs also get updated: » ww2.cox.com/residential/ ··· 0000000} quote: Will I be billed if I exceed these allowances? Cox does not currently charge you additional fees if you exceed your allowance. If you determine that your Internet data usage will continue to exceed your allowance, we recommend that you consider a Cox High Speed Internet package that more closely matches your use of the service. If you are consistently going over your data usage allowance, you will also benefit from the faster speeds that come with a higher Internet package.

I love how they try to up-sell you to a service level no one actually needs.

Could it be they don't write their own codePerhaps they purchase this stuff as a package from a vendor just like they purchase traffic shaping equipment and software and this was the vendor's standard "quick tip" and it wasn't caught. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit but I saw the same thing in the Safari EULA with Windows. Apple had used the EULA for the Mac version of Safari which stated that a single Safari license (while free anyway) could only be installed on a single Mac computer...again this was for the Windows version of Safari. Ooops. After this was pointed out in the media Apple went in and changed it. Or they could simply be in damage control mode.

Call to Action: Rescind the CapsWe've launched a call to action to see about getting Cox to scrap their other mistake: having usage caps in the first place.
If you are a Cox customer willing to get involved in some public protesting and media involvement, drop me a line at phil (at) stopthecap.com

Re: Call to Action: Rescind the CapsI wonder if "Stop the Cap" actually works or is just a vent and spam site.
