AT&T Stops Subsidizing Tablets
Joins Verizon in Only Offering Tablets Full Price
Tablet sales through carriers have never been particularly hot -- the majority of those sold are Wi-Fi only, with customers uninterested in paying a steep premium for data or in a contract -- apparently even if some of the up front tablet cost is reduced. Verizon recently announced that they'd no longer be selling users subsidized tablets, and now AT&T appears to be following suit. Leaked company documents obtained by Engadget suggest that AT&T stopped selling subsidized tablets as of yesterday, though they'll still be selling tablets at full price. The memo also indicates some changes to AT&T's DataConnect mobile broadband services. As of yesterday, stand alone data prices for tablets were lowered by $5 each, with new data plans at 250MB for $14.99, 3GB for $30, and 5GB for $50. Or, users can connect their tablet to their existing shared data plan for $10.

And with their shared data plans, this makes sense.

And with a jailbroken iPhone it makes even more sense.

The LTE iPad

I currently own a Verizon iPad 3 and had owned an AT&T iPad 1. I traded the iPad 1 (3G 32 GB) in at Verizon Wireless towards the purchase of an iPad 3. VZW gave me $175 for the old one (which was pretty generous considering the age of the device).

Bought the iPad 3 and added it to my Share Everything plan for $10 per month.

How about ..
