Comcast Expands 305 Mbps Tier Focuses on Northeast FiOS Territories Tuesday Sep 18 2012 14:35 EDT Tipped by telcodad In early July we exclusively scooped that Comcast would soon be offering users a new 305 Mbps downstream, 65 Mbps upstream tier intended to top Verizon's new Quantum offerings. Comcast confirmed the tier in late July, and today officially announced that they've launched the speedier tier "throughout most major markets in its Northeast division." "Extreme 305" specifically targets regions they compete with Verizon FiOS: primarily the suburban outskirts of Boston, Hartford, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Wilmington, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Richmond, and New Jersey. The tier comes with Comcast's latest-generation Xfinity Wireless Gateway, and includes premium 24/7 Xfinity Signature Support Complete Home, which (usually $20 a month extra). The company tells Broadband Reports the tier will cost $300 a month, and that in terms of expansion, there's "no additional markets to announce at this time." |

huh?I thought the price was going to be somewhere between $119 and $199 a month? wasn't there a post about that?
Or did they decide that the 300mbit tier will have no caps? | |

I also recall the price point being 100 - 199 per month for this service. Personally, as a FIOS subscriber, this price point and offering doesn't make me want to give Comcast a call. | |

pointless male appendage wavingThe number of consumers willing to pay $300/mo for an internet connection is miniscule. I'm not certain what Verizon and Comcast accomplish here, other than one upping each other, and grabbing the 0.00001% of customers willing to pay such prices.
Can Comcast's network even deliver these speeds? DOCSIS 3.0 with eight bonded channels tops out at a little over 300mbit/s of usable bandwidth. What good is paying for this tier of service if you can only access full speed at 4am, and probably not even then? | |

Re: pointless male appendage wavingIn that instance, one wonders if they'll charge the thousands of dollars in build out fees that new MAE customers get hit with? If they don't, it's not hard to imagine a lot of high paying, ticked off business customers knocking on their door.
Anyway, where'd you hear that? The DSLR article from the day other mentions upstream channel bonding, that would imply DOCSIS delivery, though they may not know for sure either. | |

Re: I'd pay that..Getting upstream is the problem so having 65 up for cheaper is not happening.  There's not enough return path to offer it on DOCSIS (yet). I guess you can always get full business accounts though - i'm sure they will give you 10Gbps upload for a price no problem! | |
