Windstream is preparing to deploy some faster speed tiers for the company's DSL users starting next month. According to this post by the company in our Windstream forum, starting November 12 the telco will be deploying VDSL2/GBOND technology across 87 exchanges allowing for a significant speed boost for existing customers. While that's only a small portion of the overall exchanges in Windstream's footprint, those users within range should be able to get three different new speed options, according to the company:

•12 Mbps Down, 2 Mbps up
•24 Mbps Down, 2 Mbps up
•24 Mbps Down, 4 Mbps up (via VDSL2/GBOND, FTTP)

While that isn't much in the face of faster DOCSIS 3.0 cable speeds or fiber, it's a significant upgrade for Windstream customers, many of whom are lucky to see downstream speeds between 3 and 6 Mbps. Our forums have also seen significant complaints from users saying there's heavy congestion across several regions of Windstream's network. Windstream says that if you're getting the upgrades, you should see a flyer.

"...Any markets that have seen or received flyers in the mail to upgrade their speeds are the areas that this will be available," says the company. "The majority of the areas where we are launching the residential service has been testing/offering Bonded and VDSL service to business customers already. As far as areas currently affected by latency issues, those area are already in the process of upgrading to Ethernet-based equipment."
