They don't allow you to skip, but they do allow you to fast forward.

They don't allow you to skip, but they do allow you to fast forward. Still, Redbox (if you're listening), I've been renting fewer movies from you because of this. Seriously this is an issue? You're renting a god damn movie for $1.20. WTF do you expect? Want to be able to skip preview then be prepared to pay $4 for the movie. No such thing as a free lunch. Here's an idea go take a shit, fix some popcorn and drinks and the previews will be over by then. | |

Usually when you pay for something, you don't don't have to put up with ads. C'ept for the movie industry, who milks your soul for every last dollar they can squeeze out of you. | |

I do have an example of blatant placement advertising, but it was in a TV show though. This season on the Showtime series "Episodes" (my wife likes it and forces me to watch it with her) two of the lead characters received new cars as gifts. I think they were Mercedes, but not entirely sure. Anyway, they were prominently displayed in most of the episodes. And in the episode when they first appeared one of the lead characters went on and on about the features of the car. | |

Mullica Hill, NJ | ads are showing up on store bought DVDs too. Which is wrong. They sold that DVD at retail which means they made a profit and a hefty profit at that. Going to figure in their sheer volume, it likely costs a studio maybe two bucks to get a DVD or Blu-Ray from fab to Walmart. blank media is exceptionally cheap per unit at the millions of disks volume, And when you ship out that much stuff UPS also offers a huge discount
Thankfully it is not wrong yet to rip the movie file from the disk and keep it on a media server.

You might want to check that assumption! I am not going to tell you to stop, but I searched on, "ripping dvd fair use", and came up with some interesting links, dating to 2006, where MPAA/RIAA not only believe it is wrong (both for CDs, and for DVDs), but plan to push it into law.
Personally, I don't see why they are so anal, other than pure profiteering.
